A young bisexual British lord embarks on an unforgettable Grand Tour of Europe with his best friend/secret crush. An 18th-century romantic adventure for the modern age written by This Monstrous Thing author Mackenzi LeeSimon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda meets the 1700s.

Henry “Monty” Montague doesn’t care that his roguish passions are far from suitable for the gentleman he was born to be. But as Monty embarks on his grand tour of Europe, his quests for pleasure and vice are in danger of coming to an end. Not only does his father expect him to take over the family’s estate upon his return, but Monty is also nursing an impossible crush on his best friend and traveling companion, Percy.

So Monty vows to make this yearlong escapade one last hedonistic hurrah and flirt with Percy from Paris to Rome. But when one of Monty’s reckless decisions turns their trip abroad into a harrowing manhunt, it calls into question everything he knows, including his relationship with the boy he adores.

Witty, dazzling, and intriguing at every turn, The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue is an irresistible romp that explores the undeniably fine lines between friendship and love.

Even better than I expected...

This was a wonderful book that took me by surprise with its humor, well-paced plot, and memorable characters. I took a chance on it, and I am so glad I did. The fact that characters felt flawed and real, yet didn't irritate me, was a refreshing change from other books I have picked up recently. I recommend it to anyone who wants a quick, fun read.

My absolute FAVORITE audio book ever

Christian Coulson does such a fantastic job performing this book that I cannot express how glad I am that I decided to listen to it rather than read my physical copy. Not only is it an amazingly well written story, full of excitement and heartache and love, but Coulson brings Monty and all the other characters to life in a way that my own mental adaptation could not. It's an absolute must listen and a definite read.

Fun story BRILLIANT Narration

I enjoyed this YA story, it was a fun story, witty and cute. I am glad I finally got to it, but I am so happy I listened to the audio the narrator was brilliant he just nailed it, sometimes a bad narrator can ruin a book this is actually the first time for me the narrator improved the story. I don't think I would have enjoyed the humor as much if I was reading it.

A blend of humor, adventure, and romance

Where does The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

While not the best audiobook I've listened to, it is one of the more enjoyable. The scenarios were humorous, the characters were well realized, and the plot blended enough elements well that I will come back to this story sometime.

Which character – as performed by Christian Coulson – was your favorite?

Felicity was a real stand out. You got a very good sense of her wit, the way she was reacting to the world, and her complicated relationship with her brother.

Any additional comments?

One of the things that is wonderful about this book is its diverse cast, showing that history was as complicated (with many of the same issues) as today. Our main character is bi and lecherous and actually suffers the consequences of his action. His best-friend/love-interest is biracial and suffers from epilepsy. Felicity is wickedly intelligent at a time when intelligence in women was not necessarily prized, and is struggling with society's expectations of her. The three play off each other well, and all grow in their own way. I recommend this book.

You won’t regret listening to this masterpiece

First thing first, it was music to my ears listening to Christian Coulson narrate this book. If you are like me, you find it hard to pay attention to audiobooks; however, I found no such thing with this book. I love the cheekiness of the sister, but most of all, I love the dynamic of Percy and Monty(Henry). On a spiritual level, I feel like I would get my gang in as much trouble as Monty does. This book dives head first into topics from sexuality to abuse. Note, if you are homophobic, this is not the book for you. While listening to this book I felt immersed in Monty’s world and overall give this book an 4.75/5!!!!!

One of the Top Y.A. Books of 2017

I absolutely ADORED this book. I came across it while looking for books to buy for my classroom library, and it's safe to say I plan to buy the physical copy as soon as I can. I'll try to keep this brief, but here's what I loved about it.

The Characters: Mony, Percy, and Felicity were all unique, entertaining, clever, and an absolute pleasure to read. These are three young people that have plenty of struggles, including race, class, sexuality, mental health, physical health, and familial expectations. However, they are also three young people that are strong, compelling, and deeply loyal. The relationships between these three evolved so naturally over the course of the book, and I was so deeply attached to all of them.

The Setting: I can't comment on historical accuracy, but Mackenzi Lee did a great job of immersing me in the locations and time period. It was all the best parts of historical fiction narrated by a character who was immensely relate-able to modern audiences.

The Plot: I was actually on the edge of my seat. I was dying to know what would happen next, what stupid mistake Monty would make, what adventure they'd go on, if they'd make it. It was fast-paced, energetic, and compelling, and I was hooked.

The Humor: This book had me laughing out loud more than once. It's that funny.

The Narrator: Probably a huge part of why I loved this book so much. Christian Coulson (who played Tom Riddle in the Harry Potter movies, btw), is absolutely amazing. He added so much depth and humor, and he was absolutely entertaining to listen to. He covered a range of voices and accents well, and I would definitely listen to more by him.

In all, this was one of my favorite books of 2017, and I look forward to listening again and again. There is not a doubt in my mind that I will buy the sequel the second it hits stores.

Hilarious, heartbreaking, honest & beautiful

One of the best books of the year. A hilarious romp of a historical novel, enough danger, magic and adventure to keep me on the edge of my seat, and brilliant, brilliant characters who aren't so much flawed as painfully, adorably real. I couldn't help love Monty even when he was being an idiot, selfish or completely ridiculous, or even all three at once. The side characters and the relationships between them were fantastically portrayed and really made the book. Also, outstanding handling of diversity in a setting and era where being anything other than white, male and preferably rich was subject to varying but usually horrifying levels of prejudice. It covered some really heavy, tough issues without ever coming across preachy or derailing the story and honestly, some of the hardships faced by the characters, especially Percy, brought me close to tears.

A wonderful listen

Monty is a little hard to like to begin with but I did warm up to him. I loved Percy and Felicity and their adventure in Europe was a lot of fun. The narrator's voice was perfect and enhanced the experience.

Abso-bloody-lutely brilliant!!!!!!!

I liked everything about this book, it was a riot from start to finish! I don’t normally laugh out loud at books, with this one, I very much did, ALL THE WAY THROUGH!

The narrator was perfect! He suited Monty so well, and, he gave a voice to all the other characters, not over the top at all! Just, a perfect narrator for the time of the story and the character!

I fell in love with Monty, Percy and Felicity straight away! They all have strong, different, amusing personalities and I just rooted for all of them!

The love story within the book was.... beautiful! I just shipped Monty and Percy from the beginning! I had such a smile on my face at the end as well as a few happy tears!

Very action packed, didn’t expect half the things that happened, but, you just need to go with it!!!

Want a funny, lovely, action packed story? READ THIS BOOK!

One of the best audio books I've ever listened to.

The narrator was amazing and perfect as Monty's voice and for the story set in the 1700s. This is the feel good adventure novel with a great set of main characters, all three of them distinctive and real. The language is creative and humourus, and I was smiling and laughing the whole way through it. Would highly recommend.

A Rattling good yarn.

If you enjoy outrageous behaviour in extreme coupled with insulting the crowned heads of Europe, then this is the book for you. Entwined with the theme is a touching love story which endures. There were times when I dreaded the possible outcomes, but it all came out right in the end.

Just amazing!!

Oh man where to begin, this book was so so so good, it was everything I was looking for, it had romance, adventure, it was so well written it blew me away at certain points, the stunning imagery, the poetic metaphores, oh my it was glorious! Probably the best LGBT book I've had the pleasure of reading! It doesn't make the characters hate themselves for their sexualities, despite the era it's set in, something a lot of authors can't do with book set in modern times, but also focuses on the story with a strong side element of romance, just like straight novels, and something many LGBT books just don't do, and I loved it! The story was immense and kept me hooked, and the romance was just as good, which basically never happens, and ah i can't gush enough over this book, I need to read everything Mackenzi Lee has written, and then personally beg her to turn this book into a series!

So bloody brilliant

The blurb for this book does not do it justice! I was not expecting to go on such an amazing journey of scandal, romance, highwaymen, Spanish prisons, magical alchemy hearts, pirates and more. Im going to have a book hangover for a while after this one. I truly wish that I could be friends with Monty, Percy and Felicity. Theyve left an imprint on me.

The naration.... my goodness it could not have been more perfect! So so good, each character given their own perfect tone, and read so beautifully. I am going to miss the sound of his voice in my ears. I can not recommend this book enough

Fantastic!

One of the rare books out there that are very well written. It takes a few chapters to get into the story but when it does ~ its an exhilerating ride. Great written characters, character growth, story structure, romance, action and adventure and some helarious and sassy dialogue and descriptions. A very well rounded and soundly structured story. I loved it.

Beautifully crafted and superbly narrated

This is a rollicking adventure with a mostly historically accurate feel (I'm not sure if the occasional modern expressions were inadvertent on the author's part or a deliberate technique but they actually work well).

Monty is a wonderful character who proves to be much more complex than the dissolute young nobleman he appears at the start of the book. But his sister Felicity is a scene-stealer; fiercely intelligent, independent-minded and often sharp-tongued. The way their initial sibling disdain evolves over the course of the book is as compelling in its way as the relationship between Monty and Percy.

The prose is gorgeous, with creative and lyrical descriptions bringing the settings to vivid life. But the narration..... Christian Coulson is perfect for Monty; he sounds young enough, with the cut-glass diction of the English aristocrat. The precision of his delivery brings forth every nuance of Monty's feelings, far more than would be inferred from the written word. We experience his fear and helplessness and boundless love at different stages of the book. The other characters are equally vivid; Percy's voice is calm and melodious, Felicity's often harsh and impatient. I would give the narration 10 stars if I could.

I adored this audiobook and doled it out to myself in measured portions to fully savour it. If ever there was a perfect combination of story and narrator, this is it.

Amazing

Probably the best book I've listened to on audible! It was one of the few books that I felt was better listened to, mainly because I didn't have to try to read things in an English accent and could hear it instead. Definitely would recommend if you like history, science, romance and adventure, this book has it all.
