Publisher's Summary

Breck was a heavy metal rock star and to some, perhaps, even a rock god. Playing bass since he was 10, he learned to sing and write music under the tutelage of some of the industry's best. His band was one of the loudest and heaviest out there, and they had moved from one hit record to the next with ease. Married to a supermodel and being at the top of the rock star pyramid, life for Breck was everything he'd ever wanted it to be.

Then, one day, while playing a fill-in gig with another band to help out an old friend, something weird happened, and it wasn't just a flashback from all those acid trips he did on the road.

Attacked by people he'd only seen the likes of in movies, he's forced to dive into a shadow to make good his escape. Waking up, he finds himself in a place that seems like it was ripped out of the '60s, and things are almost like home, but not quite.

It's not just the people looking to take advantage of him, after nearly two decades in the biz, Breck's more than used to that. It's not the strange cars, people, or buildings - a life on the road touring the world inured him to that years ago, as well. It's not even some of the strange beings and creatures people are telling him that share the world he now finds himself in.

No, it's far more worse than that.

He's broke.

Nobody knows who he is.

And his bass seems to be developing an attitude.

An Excellent addition to the Veilverse!

A Very interesting story with many turns I didn’t expect. The characters were interesting and complex, I want to know more about them. I love John Van Stry’s writing and this has certainly lived up to his standards. Andrea Parsneau has done another stellar job of narration her work is phenomenal! Great Story and a Great Audiobook!

Irritating

The MC's vaguely NY accent is irritating and he talks way too slow for a New Yorker. And all of the characters giggle in the same way and far too often. I stopped listening an hour or so into the book and returned it.

Andrea parsneau equals excellence

considering the rest of the books in the Veilverse series follow the LitRPG route, this book is really more just fantasy, and it's EXCELLENT. I truly enjoyed this book and it WILL make me look up more from this author to see if his other stuff is equally as good

An excellent story but it’s a little bit different.

Overall this was definitely a good story though it comes across with a different feeling than this author’s normal stories. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I would definitely read a sequel to this if he decides to write one.

Great new addition to the VeilVerse.

John puts together a very satisfying addition to the VeilVerse. This story has a totally different feel to the others highlighting the many opportunities this joint writing project offers. The writing is solid and the characters are compelling with fun twists and turns to the story. Andrea does her usual wonderful work on the narration. Looking forward to seeing what the future of this and the other projects will hold.

loved it except

its a harem-lit story with a furry wolf girl, and over all I loved it except for the twist at the end of the story

a good interpersonal story with a fantasy twist!

I picked this up because I read cultivating chaos and asgard awakening, I wasn't disappointed and you won't be either.

Unimmersive

This author knows a lot about guitars, being in a band, playing bass and it shows.

I only wish he put that much effort into describing this alternative reality the protagonist was swept into, building up interesting and believable characters with realistic behaviours and motivations.

Having the MC just take everything in his stride also makes everything so dull, because if the protagonist isn't excited, why should the reader be?
