Thirteen-time #1 national bestselling author Glenn Beck realized years ago that somewhere along the way, his four children had become more focused on Santa than the meaning of Christmas. No matter how he tried, he could not redirect their attention away from presents and elves to the manger instead. Glenn didn't want to be the Grinch who spoiled the magic of Kris Kringle, so he had to find a unique way to turn his kids back toward the true meaning of Christmas. He decided the best place to start was by first turning Santa himself back toward Christ.

Publisher's summary
Based on Scripture and resonating with historical detail comes a beautiful, fully imagined story of a young child and his role in the Last Supper of Jesus Christ.
When Nehemiah, the child of Jewish exiles, begins hearing whispers and experiencing portentous visions, it quickly becomes clear to his father and his rabbi that the young cupbearer is meant for a higher purpose...but what? Certain that the Messiah is alive at that very moment, the family waits for the boy’s destiny to be revealed.
From the ancient site of the Garden of Eden, Nehemiah undertakes a perilous journey. The caravan route is full of danger, hardship, and mystery - all of it linked to what Nehemiah has in his keeping.
In due time, his path becomes clear. It leads to Jerusalem, to a wealthy Pharisee named Joseph of Arimathea...and to Jesus of Nazareth.
In Take This Cup, the second installment of the Jerusalem Chronicles, Bodie and Brock Thoene breathe new life into one of Scripture’s most mysterious moments and expand their award-winning historical fiction with power and depth. The second audiobook in the Jerusalem Chronicles (When Jesus Wept)

A Delightful Read
I have listed and read this book five times from beginning to the end. Although it is a combination of historical facts it also is woven throughout the narrative legends myths.
The writer of the novel helped me to understand scripture I have read because of the details of culture and historical over lay. Hope the reader of this review chooses to take the time to read his book and savor the love of the Lord God for you.

LOVE this book!
What made the experience of listening to Take This Cup the most enjoyable?
The reader of the book brought the story to life. Brock & Brodie Thoene have written an excellent story. They truly bring to life what it might have been like to be in Jerusalem during Jesus's time.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, it made me laugh and cry. But hearing of Jesus's final days. The writers and reader made it seem like I was there. Knowing what was to come for Jesus.. I was overwhelmed.

Wonderful & enlightened storytelling
As Bodie Thoene states, Jesus taught using many stories. We’ve read or heard probably 25 of her and her husband, Brock’s novels. They weave knowledge of history and the Bible and extra little known sources with admitted imagination. In my mind I knew the Bible so well that I hesitated at reading the Biblical series (beginning with First Light). My husband, a strong Biblical teacher, and I were blessed and enlightened with the richness that series added to our understanding of the times of Messiah. Jesus Wept and Take This Cup continue to add understanding to that series. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Imagination and truth
A biblical story entwined with a great deal of imagination. Gives a good look into to the everyday life and times of those long ago years. a lot of research done to put the meat on the bones of the Truth of this part of history when Jesus ate the last Passover meal. It makes characters come alive but there are quite a few sections that shift into the realms of fantasy which spoils the story. But the myths and legends obviously played a greater part in people's lives then. narration excellent. a good listen if you can weed out the myths from the truth.

Lazarus occupies a surprising position in the Gospel accounts. Widely known as the man Jesus raised from the dead, his story is actually much broader and richer than that. Living as he did at Bethany, near Jerusalem, Lazarus was uniquely placed to witness the swirl of events around Jesus. When Jesus Wept, the first novel in The Jerusalem Chronicles series by best-selling authors Bodie and Brock Thoene, unfolds the turbulent times in Judea during Jesus' ministry, centering on the friendship between Jesus and Lazarus.

Story

Story
The opportunity to tour Israel came at a good time. For months, my life has been a mindless plodding through necessary routine, as monotonous as an all-night shift on an assembly line. Life gets that way sometimes, when nothing specific is wrong but the world around us seems drained of color. My weekly worship experiences and daily quiet times with God have felt as dry and stale as last year's crackers. I'm ashamed to confess the malaise I've felt. I have been given so much. Shouldn't a Christian's life be an abundant one, as exciting as Christmas morning, as joyful as Easter Sunday?

Story
Lazarus occupies a surprising position in the Gospel accounts. Widely known as the man Jesus raised from the dead, his story is actually much broader and richer than that. Living as he did at Bethany, near Jerusalem, Lazarus was uniquely placed to witness the swirl of events around Jesus. When Jesus Wept, the first novel in The Jerusalem Chronicles series by best-selling authors Bodie and Brock Thoene, unfolds the turbulent times in Judea during Jesus' ministry, centering on the friendship between Jesus and Lazarus.

Story
When a nativity display on public property is torched by a former US Senator, the media spotlight falls on the forgotten small town of Leonard, Texas, and the new pastor of its only church—Adam Wells. Emboldened by the prospect of leading his tiny congregation in a nationally-televised, first amendment debate that he considers to be a “fight for the heart and soul of America,” Pastor Wells determines not to let anything or anyone, including his wife and his rebellious sixteen-year old daughter, stand in his way.

Story
With eloquence and beauty, the award-winning author of The Book of the Dun Cow, The Book of God, and Paul: A Novel, turns his pen to history's most compelling figure, Jesus of Nazareth. In vibrant language, Walter Wangerin, Jr. sweeps away centuries of tradition and reveals a man of flesh-and-heart immediacy. Passionate, intelligent, and irresistibly real, this is a Jesus pulsing with life, who will captivate you as thoroughly as he did the men and women who walked with him across Galilee's golden countryside.
