Cole’s Saga is a stand-alone spin-off series, based on my American Apocalypse series. Cole’s Saga continues the story about Cole Biggs, and how he and his friends survive the apocalypse. North Korea, China, and Iran conspired against the world and used EMP bombs to destroy our grid. This new series starts in the Kentucky / Tennessee part of the US. The grid is down, and people panic as planes fall from the sky and cars stall. The US Government collapses and rogue government groups rise to power. Jack Harp is Cole’s best friend’s father.

Story
Teenager Amanda Castle was like a lot of people, posting pictures of her everyday life to a variety of social media sites. Not everyone who viewed her pictures was there to share in her experiences. One was there to steal her profile pictures. A terrorist in Frankfurt was desperate to please his leadership. He planned the perfect attack, one in which vulnerable people would be invited through social media to participate in a flash mob. There, the unwitting participants, thinking they were taking part in a random act of kindness, would find themselves engaged in a random act of terror.

When the pandemic hit, nobody was expecting it to be as bad as it was. The economy barely survived the lockdowns, but it staggered along until civil unrest shattered people’s hope of better times to come. With it being an election year, more and more Americans were waking up to the idea that they truly were behind the curve. The hope was if they did not get sick, run out of money, or could avoid violent mobs, they would be fine.

Lauren Russell often wondered why her father had been so adamant about teaching her skills that most other fathers wouldn't even consider teaching their daughters. Ever since she was little, she had been taught how to live and survive outdoors, and how to use firearms to protect herself and those around her. Some of the training had been a bit extreme. Or had it been? Many of her questions were answered the day the world as she knew it ended.

A nuclear EMP attack would shove the USA back 150 years. Death, chaos, and lawlessness would prevail.... Zack Johnson is no hero, but he does have some valuable prepper skills to help him survive. There is nothing like a nuclear apocalypse to help a man grow up and become a hero as he helps his family and friends survive. He is 2,000 miles from home; the grid and all modern transportation have failed. The country is degenerating into violence and dog-eat-dog scenarios. People are killing their neighbors for a scrap of moldy bread or a sip of water.

Publisher's Summary
It's been around nine long months since the United States spiraled into chaos due to a cascading systems failure. The die-off everyone predicted has begun and after a hard winter nearly every other house sits empty with the owners dead or unaccounted for. Lately the power has flickered on and off a few times, raising hopes that power restoration is coming soon.
But how do you put the genie back in the bottle? Violence is everywhere. Disease is rampant. Hundreds of thousands are dead. Insurance can never pay for the damage and loss that has occurred. The economy will take years to restore, if it can be restored at all.
From the recesses of a fractured government comes a plan to restore order and rescue what remains of the population. The first step comes with restoring power. But what if having access to electricity came at such a price that many - like Jim Powell, his friends, and his neighbors - would rather face a future in the dark.

Liked Book 6, didn't love it
This book was good, but it seemed too clinical. It was kind of a step by step directions how to kick butt and take names later. I will still wait with excitement for book 7. And there's plenty of action, heartwarming scenes, too; but this one's not my favorite in the series.

The series is spectacular. Lots of twists, turns, and descriptive details. Horton does a great job in his work. Kevin Pierce is absolutely perfect for narration of any kind, especially of a series like this. Pierce could read ingredients off the back of cleaning supplies and could still manage to make it enthralling. Love the work guys, keep it up!

Realistic and Captivating
I have been an avid reader of all of Franklin’s books since the first in this series. Not only does this whole series seem more plausible and realistic than other books in this genre but the story also grips you to the point of not wanting to turn it off.
I’ve read all of his books to date and hope to eventually get signed copies of all his work! Kevin Pierce you are the man! Best narrator ever by a long shot!

Deeper look into the big picture
I have loved this series from the start and this book did not disappoint! I enjoyed the usual action, suspense; and well thought-out and well written plot I’ve come to expect from Franklin Horton, as well as getting a better understanding of the big picture of what is going on in the nation. Jim, Gary, and Randy continue to do everything in their power to protect their families and friends. However, those in the valley are facing two bad options and must select the one they can live with, figuratively and hopefully, literally. With danger knocking on their door, not everyone can make it through alive.
Kevin Pierce is an additional force pulling us into the story. His voice is just so realistic, with emotions behind his words, the inflections he uses and the pacing. He is able to lull me into a relaxed state, put me on the seat of my chair in suspense or burst out laughing along with him. I highly recommend both this book and the series from Mr. Horton, as well as the narrator, Mr. Pierce.

I just love this series of books. I listened to this over a month ago now so am reviewing a little blindly as it were but the story just continues on from the original book. Can't wait for the next one. Not my usual genre, but I got in to this after listening to One Second After by William R Forstchen. Would like to hear a good UK equivalent.
