Resumen del Editor

Two men. Two life-altering decisions. One epic journey.

In this eighth installment in the best-selling Borrowed World series, Jim Powell is convinced that his presence in the valley is putting his friends and family in danger. Hoping to buy them some time, he increases the security at his home, then sets off on a trip to allow the situation in his community to cool off. As much as he hates the idea, he also intends to scout out a location to fall back to if his people get driven from their homes.

Frustrated by the constant tension and violence, his best friend, Lloyd, joins him. Though Jim initially welcomes the company, Lloyd spends his day writing folk ballads about his friend’s body count and bad decisions.

Both men struggle with how best to confront their changing world. Both are desperate for a solution that will give them peace. Jim ultimately wants control of his surroundings, but doesn’t want the responsibility. Lloyd wants to lay down his gun and return to the life of a performing musician. In his own way, each man will find that some truths are inescapable. While their collapsed world still allows them free will, there will be no peace, and there is no escape from the violence.

Just when you thought it was over.

I was certain this series was done. Then this pops out an blows me away. Seriously glad the story is continuing. Love the little nod to the Mad Mick.

A breath of fresh air

I read this book in six days. Loved it. Pager turner for me all the way. That said, some readers may find parts boring in comparison to the previous books since there is less action. Less overall fighting and more contemplation. No major epic battles; just mini battles throughout. Including internal personal battles. As the 8th book in the series, I found this to be a breath of fresh air. The story taking a moment to breathe and develop characters and atmosphere rather than throw in repetition. I could almost believe the journey was real, not fabricated. The ending seems to leave room for a 9th book, and if so, I highly anticipate it being released. Keep up the good work, Mr. Horton! I enjoy this world and the characters you've created and look forward to more.

The narration amazing, as always.

inner voices

There's a lot of internal struggle and emotional ground covered in Blood and Banjos. Jim, Lloyd, Sharon, Charlie and Pete. I love some of the self-realizations and coping mechanisms they come up with. I hope the camp can be revisited in the future... perhaps as guests for the potential 'festival' Jim kicks around in the next book.

One of his best!

Franklin Horton is one of my favorite authors; that said, this book is one of his best yet!
I'm always uncomfortable when an author starts out a sequel with a new character (Sharon) but he did not disappoint! This story brought in new characters and as always, you like these; felt like they were people you knew.
He didn't bring in new people to avoid wrapping up previous story lines, but to embellish them.
Excellent job!

Story starts slowly but will be thinking about it for years

This was my first F Horton book and I was really pleased. As both a banjo player (I picked this listen based purely on the clever title) and a 2nd Amendment advocate who otherwise considers himself pretty moderate and a student of history and human nature there is a lot of “food for thought” on the balance of what it may take to stay safe in somewhat apocalyptic scenarios while still preserving why you want to stay alive in the first place (ie, what makes life worth living?) The book has two subplots going at once, wherein three different characters are at different stages of coming to terms with the trade off. Lots of banjo jokes and aspersions cast as well. All in all a worthwhile listen with excellent performances to boot. Will be thinking about this book for years.
