This book is great company

It may seem strange to listen to a cookbook but this audiobook is like having Tanya Eby over so she can sit in your kitchen, tell you some stories and share her favorite recipes. I felt like she was speaking right to me. It was heartfelt, comforting, funny, moving and not boring for a second. Tanya says she will happily send you any recipe you want to see in full, but I also bought a hard copy of the book because I WANTED THEM ALL!

I really want a casserole!

It is not easy for anyone, in the middle of a pandemic, to get the feeling that they are among friends. But THIS helps! Beyond the recipes for comfort foods sprinkled with quips, stories, poetry and memories is the underlying feeling that the author is genuinely a pal you can just relax and chat with. Get a bit goofy. Tell some secrets. Giddy silliness and genuine caring. So often reviews are filled with words like "timely" and "important" Well, right now this is important as well as timely. Well done! (Pun intended)

Delightful & Unique

I never thought a cook book could be so much fun. But then again, Sweet & Sorrow is not an ordinary cook book. It’s a completely unique experience. And it’s not very surprising because there’s nobody like Tanya out there. She’s a very talented writer, and it shows in every single part of this book.

I loved the poetry. I loved the storytelling involved in every recipe. And obviously the jokes. Tanya is hilarious even when she’s not even trying. I loved the heartbreaking memories of her past, and the heartwarming ones, too.

She’s an amazing and talented narrator as well. And Sweet & Sorrow is such a delightful listen. I would recommend everyone to listen to this book even if that sounds weird. Tanya’s narration feels like she’s right there with you, and you’re having a conversation with an old friend. I seriously encourage everyone to give it a listen, even if cooking is not your thing. It’s just such an extraordinary book. I really loved it.

It really deserves all the stars. It is that awesome.

Do yourself a favor and eat this book...

This listen is SO GOOD, like those corn chips we wore on our fingers when we were kids good, like eating the whole pint good, like peanut butter and a spoon good, like just get it, okay?

I laughed, I cried, I hugged my dog and texted my forever friends to tell them I love them...

Get it for yourself, get it for a friend. Filled with a melty core of memories and interspersed with poetry and side story interludes, Sweet and Sorrow is the story you want, but also, the story you need.

Super fun with thought provoking moments.

I loved it. This book had everything. Hilarious read with trips down memory lane and oh so much food. I think I put 5lbs in just listening. My only problem is like banoffee pie; it left me wanting more.

Read this book a smile is a guarantee!

First off I am a huge fan of Tanya Eby, in everything she does! But the day I found this audio book had been one of the worst days ever! I am so glad I found this because Tanya made me laugh! This is a book about a lot of things but all of it is served up with Tanya's ability to poke fun at herself! Trust me you will not regret buying this audio book. There is laughter, a little bit of poetry, life lessons, and recipes. I particularly enjoyed how she explained how to make Hangover Hashbrowns. If you can make it through this book without laughing I don't think we could ever be friends! Bravo Tanya!!!!!!!

hanging out with a friend

Sweet & Sorrow is like hanging out with a friend and talking about life. It's part recipes, part memoir, it's here, there, and in between. It's ups and downs. It was just what I needed.
