Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

LOVED IT!
You know when you will be buying the whole series as you listen to book 1? This is one of those books. The authors did an amazing job of successfully integrating humor into this sci-fi book and the narrator....hil-ar-i-ous-ly perfect.... I have already bought book 2 and I am eager to listen to the rest of this captivating series. Thanks for the humor and laughs. After a year of a global pandemic, we can all use the excuse to just enjoy something funny.

AI inside a Superdreadnought, what could go wrong?
This series is both a stand alone and part of a series. If you haven't read The Kurtherian Gambit Series, I enjoyed it, but it's not required, to understand and enjoy this story. I can't recommend the author or the narrator highly enough. This was a fun, fast paced ride across the universe. I will a warning, if you don't like gratuitous, funny swearing, this books not for you. But if you like fast paced action, good versus evil, Listen to this.

I was looking forward to this one...what a shame
I like stories about AIs and robots so I was anxious to read this. What a disapointment. First The AI of this ship speaks in such gutter lanquage all of the time, replicates himself to make a whole bridge crew with personalities of 12 year old street kids throughinf f-bombs, plenty of gutter humor and stupid bathroom insults, no cleverness, no real humor or smart interaction with humans. What a waste. I couldnt get though it andam returning this idiocy.

One I missed and shouldn't have
This is just a different type of SI Fy book because it uses an A.I. that plays multi characters. It talks to itself while bring into the book a crew from on earth areas. There is humor because of the talking back and forth. There are lots of battles and sometimes the A.I.'s view seems to be just wipe out the enemy or sometimes save one. Give it a try. I am off to book 2.

Humorous Sci fi
Really enjoyed this book. Ordered book 2 before I was half way through and thrilled to see there were even more. Reynolds et al were laugh a minute characters and Phil Thron is, as usual, utterly brilliant, he being the reason I opted to listen to this book in the first place. Well worth a listen.

A hidden gem
This book looked interesting but at first listen I was thinking of returning it as the thought of listening to an AI with multiple personalities did not sit well with me. I gave it a second listen and to my surprise the human characters completely changed my thoughts on this book so much that I have pre ordered book 2. So do not be put off this is developing into a great story line and I greatly look forward to all the following books

Meandering But Great Entertainment
I got quite a bit to say here so I will start with the negative. The story is quite meandering at first glance as the ship goes from thing to thing and there is only a gentle threat connecting them but honestly, I find that quite irrelevant. The only big issue is at the start, it is a bit of a build-up and I almost DNFed it but I am SOOOO glad I didn't!
That is because of the great parts. The characters are absolutely magnificent, they are funny, feel like real people. There is genuine chemistry that you see in friends and a tight crew that is on a mission but does not quite have, yet somewhat tries, to have the air of military around it. There is swearing in the story in a natural way, they don't feel too vulgar nor too formal for what they do and it is all balanced and befitting to each ones personality and history as far as they are revealed in this book.
There are plenty of hilarious moments, setting fitting sarcasm, witting and much else. A great read if you ask me and I'd recommend it time and time again despite its meandering story because that is not that relevant with such a great cast!
And the performance by Phil Thron, absolutely fantastic, greatly done. Could try to make the voices a bit more distinct but he does the job well enough and his execution of all is marvellous. I recommend this to any scifi lover.

Kinda good entertainment
But reminds me most of all on the good old teen movies i used to watch back in the 80'.
Now I'm in my mid fifties and the book are clearly aimed to a much younger public.
Anyway I found the entertainment value basic, not at all intellectually challenging but not that bad or boring that I abandoned the story.
If you, as I, just want some light listening to fall asleep to, it's recommendable but if you're looking for something deeper, scientific and socially/politically interesting, don't take this path. The story merely scratches these points.
There's a lot of sarcasm and humor in the story, not the kind that makes you laugh out loud, just a lot of invert hahas.
Still I'm going to listen to the next book in the line. 👍🏻

Unlikeable characters
I wanted to like this book; it seemed to be the type of book I have read for years and enjoyed.
It wasn't.
The characters are all unlikeable and humourless and I found myself disengaged from them and not really caring what happened to them.
The "wise-cracking" was about as engaging as that which came from the donkey in Shrek.
Not going to finish this one; what would be the point

Loved this book
Had read a few reviews saying it was hard to get in to at first, I didn’t find this the case. The story has a good pace interjected with sci fi movie quotes that sci fi geeks like myself will appreciate.
Only criticism is that I was not happy when it ended I was hoping it would go on indefinitely.

A Slow burner which explodes!
I'll be the first to admit I struggled and wondered what I had done when I started listening to the book. However, it soon picks up and the early chapters are needed once the story explodes in spectacular fashion.
If you get this book please stick with it through the early chapters. It's worth it! Can't wait for the 2nd book to reach the top of my listening list.

Like AI stories its ok, but its highly simplistic
These series is an average listen and keeps you wanting more of the ongoing story of an AI and a battleship. It is very simplistic in its outlook however, celebrating death and destruction which does get unsettling as time goes on. The the cartoon characters that accompany the AI rejoyce a little too much in their killing too. the ship battles are ok however, but the middle 3 book do repeat a storyline.

Really entertaining space romp
It's great to have another funny and engaging story read to me by Phil Thron. Superdreadnought is the start of a series that I have a lot of hope for - original, comical and full of action. I love the political plots and character development. My only comment is that some of the crew relationships feel rushed and they are too quick to bond, but that didn't stop my enjoyment of the book overall. Can't wait for more.
