Publisher's summary

Ex-Army paratrooper Griffin “Fin” Brooks thought he left danger behind when his battlefield injuries forced him to pursue a new career in marine biology. But one fateful night off the coast of South Africa, a ship nearly crashes into him and his loyal golden retriever, Jacques.

Not just any ship. A starship.

Though its alien pilot is dead, the rare extraterrestrial animal inside is not. Fin learns the creature is being smuggled across the galaxy when a pair of interstellar visitors respond to the crash. But those same investigators accuse Fin and his dog of crimes he didn’t even know existed.

The only way to clear his name is to take the strange creature to its home planet and find out who’s responsible for killing the starship’s pilot. And that means Fin quickly needs to learn how to fly a spacecraft and navigate a galaxy teeming with intelligent life beyond his wildest dreams.

And he’s not the only one with designs for the crashed starship and it's cargo. Fin will need every skill he’s honed as a paratrooper and a marine biologist if he—and his dog—are to survive.

Don't miss the next rollicking sci-fi adventure from Anthony J. Melchiorri. It's perfect for fans of JN Chaney, MR Forbes, and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Love that octopus

Not even 1/4 of way through and I will admit so far I am enjoying it. However, I must make the same complaint I have been making for the last several years. The protagonist is whiny, complaining. and self centered. I'm done for now.

A brand new series to love!

I'm a huge fan of Melchiorri and this book might just be my favorite yet. It's got everything to love, a great MC, a dog, and a spaceship. Plus loads of action/adventure/science that we can expect from his books. The narrator did a great job. Awesome all around! Can't wait for book 2 and 3.

cliche

Paul did a great job narrating. The story had to many inconsistencies, and overall the story was weak.

Cool Story!

This is a fun story that kept me interested the entire way through, and left me looking forward to the next book in the series.

The world beyond our planet

I like the characters and how he’s used some minor characters from past books that you didn’t expect

amazing Story

Loved the Expeditionary Force reference in chapter seven and Paul Heitch is an amazing story teller as always.

Slow and repetitive.

I like the basic idea for the story, but the pacing is incredibly slow. I get that he’s a reluctant hero for the story, but if he doesn’t want an adventure, why did he join the military to jump out of airplanes, then become an oceanographer? I listened to this book for over an hour and just got fed up with the slow pace and repetitive reluctance to just get on with what obviously needed to be done.

Tedious

Not much to like. The main character acts like a simpleton teenager. I'm trying to figure out how to return this title. No luck so far.

Started interestingly, ended predictably

I picked this title because it sounded like there might be an interesting twist due to the character's background in marine biology, but it let me down and just became a run-and-shoot things book. I did listen to the end, but even the lamish cliffhanger ending won't get me to read the series.
