Publisher's Summary

There are a couple of reasons I shouldn't crush on Zach Stauff.

  1. He's my big brother's best friend.
  2. He's my roommate.
  3. He's straight.

None of those things matter when I'm around him, and my heart starts beating like crazy. He's been the star of my wet dreams since forever, but to him, I'm just the kid who used to eat mudcakes. That is, until he walks in on me playing with a cucumber - without my clothes on. Worse, I was on camera streaming to an online audience when he witnessed the "cucumber incident".

Now he's probably got a very different image of me.

My subscribers say we should make out. They say they'd pay good money for the show.

I can't ask Zach to do that.

But what if this is my best chance to touch something that isn't a vegetable?

Straight as a Cucumber is a 70,000-word romantic comedy novel with a little angst, lots of laughter, silly animals, and sillier men. Knowledge of prior books in the series is not at all necessary to enjoy this one. Buy now if you need a reason to smile today!

Cute, quirky and very hot!

I died of embarrassment and was revived by laughter! This book was so quirky, I was literally laughing out loud throughout. This was my second time with this author/narrator duet and I must say…they are magic! The author did an amazing job with writing vulnerable yet still sex positive characters! I love that when Zach fell for Emerson, he just went for it. Although up until that point, he was straight, he didn’t really question it and just accepted the fact that he was now attracted to a man. With Emerson, I loved that he refused to be shamed for what he chooses to do or how he choose to express himself. The side characters offered some nice support and I was intrigued to check and see if they had or were going to get their own storyline. But bagel and soda, Emerson pets, stole a couple scenes with their comic relief. All in all, this was a cute, low angst gay romcom!

Okay

I enjoyed this story overall, but at times it was a little too silly for me. I really liked Emmerson but never really connected with Zach. John Solo did a good job with all the antics, he really elevated that part of the story, but I didn't like Zach's voice, he sounded off to me.

Fun story full of sweetness and heat

I could listen to John Solo all day long. He did an incredible job bringing life to Emerson and Zach. This was a fun story full of sweetness and heat. Emerson needs a place to stay and winds up rooming with his older brother's best friend Zach. One day while filming his webcam show, Zach walks in on Emerson in a compromising position. That sparks Zach's curiosity as he starts to look at Emerson in a whole new light. This was a relatively low angst story that kept me smiling and laughing the whole time. I enjoyed how their relationship progressed, they are an adorablely cute couple. Loved Soda and Beggels!

so cute and modern

things like video cam showed have become very popular now so it's cool to see a story that's staying relevant with the ruined and using that as a plot point. A lot of times people in sex work are misunderstood or mistreated and it's nice to see a character stand up for himself like this. the story had everything, long time crush, brothers best friend, bi awakening, adult toys, smexy steamy scenes, and adorable pets. I recommend the story. it's modern and unique but still lovable and cute.

Fantastic rom-com listen

This book is part of a series but can be heard as a stand alone. This story uses two of my favorite tropes, my best friend’s brother and roommates! The characters and story are well developed and made me laugh out loud at times.

John Solo did a wonderful job narrating this fun and upbeat story. FYI the pets steal the show!

Funny, cute and hot!

I’m really enjoying this #Love wins series. I personally love some funny in my stories and this one didn’t disappoint. I loved Zach from the last book and it was nice see him get HEA. Some of my favorite parts was with him and Wes. While Emmy was a little bratty at times, I did like how he stood up for himself and for his chooses(especially his webpage)!!

Hilariously Sweet and Just What I Needed

I have loved this series so much and it just gets better. I loved every character down to the pets that were equally a great part of the story. John Solo always delivers and he gave the MCs just the right amount of awkward embarrassment and head over heels the story needed. This one might be my new favorite Ana Byrde book.

This book was super funny, sweet and a very steamy

Hilarious incidents, spoiled and protective animals, a young man who longs to be seen as an adult, and his roommate, and older brother’s best friend, who finds himself having very adult thoughts about him!
The book is fast-paced, easy to read and very entertaining. John Solo narration is top notch as always!

So much fun!

The fun times continue in this 3rd installment of #Love Wins. Ana Byrde has brought the laughs, fun, crazy pets, tension, EVERYTHING - including produce! I loved Zach & Emmy's story, but the star of the show is none other than Soda! (and Beggles, can't forget the pooch!) Zach gets in his own way at times, so does Emmy, but they work it out - in a big way! - in the end. I laughed so hard several times in this story, and had my heart melted, , it's DEFINITELY a fun read!

John Solo shines once again, bringing his special touch to this already fantastic story, making it even funnier and more entertaining. You can feel Zach's pain, Emmy's utter mortification, the nerves & the heart, and of course, the love, through the emotions put into this stellar performance. Wonderful team, amazing series.

Hilarious!

There are some hilarious moments in this gay for you story, made more so by the awesome narration. Emy has had a crush on his brothers straight best friend since he was 12 and when he goes to college and finds himself living with Zach his dreams might come true. But then Zach discovers how Emy makes his money, sexy internet videos! Emy’s dog and parrot add some funny moments too. I loved following the two men as they come together.

Super-hot, cute and funny, too.

I’m a super huge fan of John Solo’s audiobook performances and he really knocked it out of the park with this one. Ana Byrde has written a great rom-com with several great romance tropes. The “best friend” trope is one that I’ve really been enjoying lately. This one is brother’s best friend and it was very entertaining.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

So Much Fun, J. Solo is Wonderful!

Oh my gosh, I've no idea if Ana Byrde is a nom de plume, but darn this author can write! What a perfectly crafted plot. They totally pull off the difficult to sell GFY theme, the characters are so likeable, the pacing is fast, and there are so many funny moments!

I see this is the third book in the series, but it's my first book by Ana Byrde, so obviously I had no trouble enjoying Straight as a Cucumber as a standalone... and you can bet I'm going to be looking for more, now that I've found this author.

I listened to Straight as a Cucumber in audio, and John Solo does a fantastic job. He's a great choice for these college age characters, their youth and playfulness really comes through, and it's easy to see he's having a blast performing this one.

Grab yourself a copy of Straight as a Cucumber, and prepare to laugh out loud!

Cute story

This story focuses on Zach from the previous book and Emerson. Zach our relationship advisor finds himself in need of a new roommate since Wes moved out and he has decided to have his best friends' little brother to live with him. Emerson has been in love with Zach for years so this arrangement will be difficult for him. As they settle in with each other, we learn some shocking things about Emerson. Such as how he earns his money. When Zach catches him in a compromising situation, hilarity insues.

I loved this story. It was full of humor and drama. We get the family drama, school drama and love life drama. Both Emmy and Zach have issues they must work through before they get their HEA. It was enjoyable to read.

I recommend reading this book, if you love bisexual awakenings, cute pets and cam boy situations. You don't need to read the previous ones to enjoy this one.

Funny and hot!

This series is funny, sweet and hot! The book is a standalone but absolutely worth to listen to them all.

Straight as a cucumber is about Zach and his best friend’s little brother Emmy, who becomes Zach’s roommate. Emmy hates to be treated like the child he isn’t anymore. He’s supposed to go to college but he doesn’t. He has other things to do. Some of it might have to do with a cucumber.

Through in a crazy bird and a very lazy dog and you get the picture!

Straight as a cucumber is a great laugh mixed with some steamy hotness! But also some seriousness about being true to yourself and honest to others with who you are.

John Solo enjoyed narrating this book. I can tell! His expressions of all the emotions is what he does best!

Outstanding Story & Narration🎧 A Delightful RomCom

Wow, this book is awesome, the story and characters are fun and entertaining, guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Ana Byrde is a gifted author with a brilliant mind, I enjoy her writing style and her way with words, you not help but to love her witty humor and comedic timing. I adored both lead characters, Emerson “Emmy” Lobb and Zach Stauff, they are easy to relate to and connect with. Zach is Emmy’s brother’s best friend, Emmy is starting college and since Zach’s roommate moved out he offered the room to Emmy who gladly took it. Emmy has always crushed on Zach even though he knew it would never go anywhere since Zach was straight. Emmy moves in with dog Beggles and his bird Soda. The shenanigans from his pets were hilarious, as were Aunt Rosy’s, who is a real hoot. Emmy’s side business, shooting entertaining videos of himself, but Zach accidentally finds out about it after hearing ruckus in Emmy’s room, he was left speechless with what he found, lets say you will never look at another cucumber with that scene coming to mind. I loved how everything plays out in this wonderful RomCom, the story is cleverly plotted with the perfect balance of romance and comedy, it is light on angst and heavy on humor, with some drama and heartfelt and emotional moments too. Ana Byrde, thank you for the wonderful story and the laughs, I am looking forward to what comes next in this amazing series.
