Stoicism - Understanding and Practicing the Philosophy of the Stoics

“It is the power of the mind to be unconquerable.” (Seneca, The Stoic Philosophy of Seneca: Essays and Letters)

What does it mean to be “unconquerable?”

Becoming unconquerable has nothing to do with forming an army or strengthening your muscles. In fact, it has nothing to do with anything physical at all. It’s about changing how you view the world and your part in it.

You become unconquerable when you learn how to deal with the curveballs of life. How do you find joy in your darkest hour? How do you feel rich when you have nothing? The answers are in this audiobook.

You won’t find these teachings in today’s schools, but this is exactly what the ancient philosophers were teaching. Events outside of your control should have no impact on your joy, happiness, peace, or confidence. If these things are going to happen anyway, why not turn them into positive events?

Instead of always being the victim, turn yourself into the victor. All it takes is a shift in perspective, and that’s what Stoicism is all about.

The timeless wisdom of the Stoics can help anyone find inner peace and joy and Stoicism - Understanding and Practicing the Philosophy of the Stoics is the perfect starting point.

Stoicism - Purpose and Perspectives

We live in a fast-paced world that has come to characterize the 21st century. We are bombarded with constant distractions, and silence has all but vanished from our daily schedule and practice. We are collectively exhausted, but we don’t really realize it. The exhaustion manifests in sicknesses we can’t identify, and if we can, it’s something we can’t pronounce. We batter ourselves against the daily onslaught that has become our lives.

We all need a break, and we all need answers on how to stop this fast-moving wreck in motion. The answer, it turns out, has been in front of us all along and within us even longer. The Stoics figured it out two and a half millennia ago and practiced it with great results. Maybe it can help us now, too.

Stoicism has two aspects - the theory and the academics of it and wanting to read the texts that fall into that category is a good thing, but this is not that. This book is about how one practices Stoicism in their daily life here and now. It is for this century, this decade.

Is the solution here? No. The solution is within each of us. What you will find here, though, is the way to extract the solution that is already within you. It’s as simple as that.

“Too simple” says all small thinkers

Too often anything that’s Stoic Philosophy listenings have a bad review for being “too simple” when it’s the greatest minds that have shaped the world we live in today. Anyone can make something simple too complex but only a genius can find something complex and make it simple. This is a book for those who think big with small tellings of wisdom.

Interesting quotes and reflections

I use this as daily inspiration to write. It gets me thinking about what is happening in my life or in the world and sometimes alters my perspective in a positive way. It is different from most daily quote books because the quotes are from so long ago, but they still are almost always relevant to today.

Grab some daily wisdom

Kyle Faber takes the wisdom of the Stoics and wraps it up into several daily reflections. I’ve gone through t twice so far and have found different nuggets each time I’ve listen it. Perfect for a student or a business person like myself looking to gain daily wisdom through Stoic philosophy. A nice follow up to his other books on stoicism.

Better than morning news

A really nice wait to start your day. I used to listen to the morning news as part of my daily ritual. Frankly this is much better. Instead of listening to constant media political blather,I can actually improve myself a little bit at a time. Maybe you'd say I'm dropping out, and you might be right, but that's what I think I need right now.

Great daily inspiration from the Stoics

A year's worth of daily stoic sayings by the master philosophers, and excellent commentary by the co-authors. First thing I do in the morning is listen the daily quote and contemplate it. If you're into stoicism, philosophy, or just want to improve your life, I highly recommend you get this book.

Great Daily listen

Like any daily book, this one is best enjoyed one day at a time. There's enough to chew on each day to make it worth it, though if you aren't at least somewhat familiar with Stoicism it might come across as fragmented. I view that as the double edge of the form rather than any fault of the author's.

Great daily practice

I found this useful to listen after meditating in the morning.
The snippets are short enough to listen in a few minutes but profound enough to ponder all day. Grouping them by topic / subject or theme I also found helpful.

Good daily listen

This is a daily book on stoic. Each month has an over arching topic with which each day of the month builds on. The listening for the day starts with a quote from one of the stoics. the listening and how to use stoic philosophy to apply it to one's own life.

Daily mindfulness

Listening one entry a day is now part of my nightly routine after I finish evening chores and before I go to sleep. It helps me wind down and focus on what's important and what's in my control, allowing me to let go of noise and distractions from the day, I am so glad that I found this book.

Great Reminders

This is exactly what it says. Short daily reminders/meditations on living/practicing Stoicism. I listen it every morning and try to keep that day's topic in mind throughout my day . Great reminders that we control only our thoughts/minds, not to get worked up or anxious about the things we can't control, and many other Stoic principles that I personally find quite beneficial, and think you will too. My life has been improved by having this book in it.

If you can only listen one thing a day

A great way to start the day. If you listen this everyday and think about the message for even 30 seconds it is impossible to not have a better life. I have given this book to over 50 people this year. Even if one found it as helpful as i did that would be a success. I am pretty sure most have loved it, like I have. It’s not a book it’s a lifestyle.

Awesome book

Awesome book, I'm six months into it, and it really helps set my attitude positively before I start the day. Would recommend to any practicing Stoic, or anyone interested in Stoicism. For a beginner it is really digestible as it is only a chapter a day.

Excellent Basis For Thought

Excellent! with each day denoted for the day of the year And, a bound-in red ribbon to keep your place. I'm exercising discipline to refrain from "listening ahead." It's enough, and more than enough, to listen one half-chapter -or-so thought, and then reflect on that as I go through my day. I'm thinking' I might use some of the margin spaces to add my own initial reaction... Very Well Worth the Price!

The most practical book

Kyle Faber does a fantastic job breaking down the Stoic teachings of philosophers. I listen this throughout the year with few interruptions in routine and it has impacted my life immeasurably. Kyle Faber not only adds an easy to listen paragraph about the quote of the particular day, but has also organized these teachings by topics that give each month a bit of order, the quotes are not random, and because they are organized as they are, they begin to build on each other and lead to deeper understanding.
