Publisher's summary

Life is already complicated enough for John Lee Quarrels, what with his estranged wife dropping in for unannounced sleepovers, her oversexed sister tempting him, his pot smoking ponytailed grandfather growing his own stash, his Elvis obsessed grandmother, and being caught smack dab in the middle of a power struggle between the Sheriff and Chief Deputy. But when a road construction crew unearths the skeletons of three murder victims, John Lee suddenly finds himself on the trail of a killer who may well have died long before the deputy was even born. And then a mysterious sniper begins shooting at deputies....

As sultry as a Florida back road in August, as mysterious as the South's live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss, and as deadly as a copperhead strike, New York Times best-selling author Nick Russell's new John Lee Quarrels series will keep you listening late into the night.

Still Born Armadillos

This is the first book in this series. I bought this book because i like books about small towns. I will continue and listen to the whole series. This is a five star book in my opinion. There is good characters and a good storyline. You get to know all the people in the little town. I highly recommend this if you like mystery, police books in small towns. David Stifel does a great job narrating this book. This was my first time listening to him. If my review is any help will you please click on the helpful link below. Thank you.

Love the one liners

Love the one liners. My wife and I listed to this book and kept laughing at the one-liners.
Love the narrator's voice.
We had to get the rest of the series.

Decent story lines/horrible narration

I got all 4 of the books in this series for free, so I did finish reading them. The story lines were actually not bad. But I agree with almost every single review, that the narrator was hideous. At times, he did just read parts of the story and that was fine. If he had done the books all that way, I could have given between a 4 and 5 star review.

But by the end, I swore if I heard the word "dippity" instead of deputy one more time I would have screamed. And he made so many of the characters just sound totally stupid. I have lived in the panhandle of Florida for a time, and never once heard anyone sound like he made these people in the story sound...

Decent Story......Cringeworthy Narration

The story was interesting but not totally riveting. The narrator apparently thinks Southerners all speak with a whiney voice. I almost couldn't keep listening because of it. I won't be listening to anymore stories narrated by this narrator.
