Publisher's summary

You know Kenny Loggins for his megahit soundtrack themes and chart-topping collaborations. Now you can know him through the intimate stories behind his five-decade career as a legendary songwriter and pop icon.

In a remarkable career, Kenny Loggins has rocked stages worldwide, released ten platinum albums, and landed hits all over the Billboard charts. His place in music history is marked by a unique gift for collaboration combined with the vision to evolve, adapt, and persevere in an industry that loves to eat its own. Loggins served as a pivotal figure in the folk-rock movement of the early ’70s when he paired with former Buffalo Springfield member Jim Messina, recruited Stevie Nicks for the classic duet “Whenever I Call You ‘Friend,’” then pivoted to smooth rock in teaming up with Michael McDonald on their back-to-back Grammy-winning hits “What a Fool Believes” and “This Is It” (a seminal moment in the history of what would come to be known as yacht rock). In the ’80s, Loggins became the king of soundtracks with hit recordings for CaddyshackFootloose, and Top Gun; and a bona fide global superstar singing alongside Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson on “We Are the World.”

In Still Alright, Kenny Loggins gives fans a candid and entertaining perspective on his life and career as one of the most noteworthy musicians of the 1970s and ’80s. He provides an abundance of compelling, insightful, and terrifically amusing behind-the-scenes tales. Loggins draws listeners back to the musical eras they’ve loved, as well as addressing the challenges and obstacles of his life and work—including two marriages that ended in divorce, a difficult but motivating relationship with the older brother for which “Danny’s Song” is named, struggles with his addiction to benzodiazepines, and the revelations of turning seventy and looking back at everything that has shaped his music—and coming to terms with his rock-star persona and his true self.

Getting to know Kenny

Really enjoyed the book. I love how honest Kenny is about the good, bad, and difficult times in his life. Kenny shows us that he is just a human doing the best he can and striving to grow and learn along the way. As a person who struggles with periodic anxiety disorder, I have to say that I am so appreciative that he is vulnerable and honest about his struggles. He is a survivor of the challenges that life throws us, and an inspiration to us about continuing to live a full live in All stages of a person's life. I really enjoyed this book. Thank you Kenny

More than Alright!

This was a nice journey of a songwriter who’s been in the music business for half a century. Loggins is currently on a victory lap. The performer is 75 and embarking on his final tour. From his days in Loggins & Messina, the author gives listeners an inside look into the peaks and valleys of his success. With touches of humor and poignancy, Loggins is a fine storyteller, who’s not afraid to point out his faults. Even if you’re a casual fan /“- like myself - you’ll enjoy the journey.

Like 2 hear how songs R created? You'll LOVE THIS!

Kenny talks about how his songs (yes-his famous ones too!) were made, structured, performed...all of it! Includes his highs and lows.. I learned about much of his back catalog. A great songbook of work that contained songs that I was not familiar with, such as 'THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY'. A heartfelt ballad to his own son, that relates directly to my own life. This title, along with many, many other introspective and personal tunes that all mean so very much to him.. Through this book, I found a new side to his music that I had never bothered to invest time to get to know. From listening to just what he put into his music and lyrics gave me the push to invest some time to genuinely listen and feel music from, wait for it!, an actual MUSICIAN that I had previously only known as a radio friendly, "yaht-rock"-king and soundtrack-connoisseur. Sorry Mr Kenny Loggins!-I had no idea! Thank you for letting us all in!

Awesome!

I have been a KL fan since I was a kid and I’m now 61. While there’s plenty of sex, drugs and rock and roll, Kenny shares openly and honestly, with humbleness and a vulnerability about his personal struggles and his path to becoming a more authentic human being. I so enjoyed his story and recommend to anyone who is a KL fan.

A compelling, engaging memoir

I don’t own any Kenny Loggins albums, but I’ve always admired his songwriting. This memoir shows him to be a thoughtful, self-aware and (normally) level-headed individual who takes his craft seriously and his rock-star status less so. He doesn’t shy away from writing about personal and professional conflicts with others, but he’s not one to simply assign blame to others. Quite the opposite, in fact. He’s fully aware of his own shortcomings and his insights along those lines are always self-effacing, entertaining and instructive. The writing and narration for this audiobook are first rate.

Just Alright

I loved Kenny Loggins in the 70’s and 80’s. I saw him in concert several times and thought he was great. Perhaps naively, I thought he was the rocker who could sustain a happy marriage and be a good and present father. I nearly put this book down when he took up with Julia, but decided to grin and bear it through the mystical colon cleansing bonding of two souls. It wasn’t until the end of the book that I realized he was just telling the story of an awkward but talented kid who ascended to rock and roll royalty never completely feeling that he was being authentic. The moral of the story for me is don’t read an autobiography of a performer you once thought was impervious to the pitfalls of fame unless you’re ok with feeling disappointed.

Angels and Astrology, No Thanks

Loggins' autobiography was unrewarding for me and I feel as if I've wasted a credit. The guy's a stellar musical talent but perhaps an example of how talent and intellect can be mutually exclusive.
