Made me care about Jyn

Rebel Rising made me care about Jyn as a character. She had so much hardship in her life, but she was still able to care enough to help save the galaxy despite everything, and she got nothing in return. It was a tragic story that this novel really fleshed out.

Unfortunately I had some issues with the narrator. Compared to someone like Mark Thompson, who is excellent at impressions of different Star Wars characters, Rebecca Solar seemed to have a hard time doing the different voices, especially men. Her Cassian for example, which only had a few lines near the end, was really bad. But I will give her credit for doing a decent voice for Jyn, and doing a good job describing the scenes.

A good novel, but one that has a few slow moments. If you half liked Jyn in Rogue One, give it a shot

Pretty mediocre

I was hoping for something a little more character driven and less about her being drug along. Sure, in Rogue One, she barely had any control on her life either, but at least we got to see something other than the boring stuff she did in that.

Great build up to Rogue One!

I love a good origins story, this one gave some good insight into our heroine and her struggle to survive in a galaxy that was constantly putting her between a feud she wanted nothing to do with

Really dark, really good!

This novel almost flew under my radar because Jyn Erso is not my favorite character, but boy am I glad I sat through it.

This is a fabulous piece riddled with amazing world building. Some very often overlooked themes and topics are dabbled with in this novel. Addiction, PTSD, gambling, education, chronic illness, ... it even goes into the difference between splicing and holo doctoring.

I absolutely loved this novel and I'd recommend it for anyone looking to dig a little deeper into the grim world leading up to Rogue One.

This is not a novel for happy endings.

Good story, poor production.

The story was good, seemed to end fairly abruptly. The narration was rough. Having to listen to her rendition of Saw was terrible. Allay several bad also cuts. I've never heard so many obvious changes in takes in all of the new Canon books.

One of my favorite audio books I’ve listened to! Great story, great performance. Can’t wait to watch Rogue One again after listening to this!

A great read, and an excellent Rogue One prequel

This is to Rogue One as Rogue One is to A New Hope. It leads tight into it and is excellent!

A fair review from a Legends Fan

Yeah I am Legends fan through and through. That out of the way I actually enjoyed rogue one. The beginning of this book was very interesting. It was nice to see Jyn being cared for and trained by Saw. It seemed to do its best to fill in some cool gaps. (I wish this wasn’t a YA book. (Rouge One was damn near an R rated book). A cannon fan might hate this book. But a it’s a fun read for a Legends fan. This is one of the rare few with the Star Wars feel.

Good because it was depressing.

I was surprised about how depressing this book actually was (not in a negative way). I didn't like rouge one because Jyn was a throw away character. This added much needed depth to her character.
