Publisher's summary

Powers are determined by geographic birth locations, and only the rich and powerful are permitted access to prized sites. SC is the first person born in space.

The punishment for unauthorized births is death. Out of fear, SC keeps his strange abilities as his darkest secret. He pretends to be nothing more than a mere Regular while his peers develop unique powers, varying from controlling lightning to producing diamond-hard skin. But when his mother is kidnapped by an unknown organization, SC has no choice but to act.

SC ventures into a school of talented students to learn to fight, where he must learn to master his powers without revealing their true nature. But soon he realizes that the school is more than it appears and that it may hold the secret to his missing mother. To rescue her, he will have to reveal powers never before seen in all of history.

A narrator can make all the difference

While quite an imaginative work it was the passionate and energetic narration that made this a fantastic listening experience.

An excellent coming of age story

Filled with simplistic morality and a burgeoning world of possibilities centered around a young man just exiled from the relative normalcy of his life in hiding. Perfect for the sci-fi and teen drama fan alike. This smart and interesting gem in the rough was a delightful surprise. Each character is unique, interesting and well fleshed out within the limited confines of a short novel. Will M. Watt does this book justice with his excellent narration and ear for voices, lending to the already immersive story. I see this as a great new adventure that I look forward to following as the series progresses and the conspiracy surrounding the protagonist deepens. Cheers Mr.Petracci! Fine job!

Amazing story and voice artist

Found this story on reddit, started it there and bought the audio book to finish. Absolutely incredible! And the voice artist is one of the best I’ve heard. His ability to emulate different dialects and accents as well as convey the message is killer. Highly recommend!

Narrator

The story was amazing and the narrator made it over the top. He made different voices for each of the characters bc thoroughly expressed the emotions in them.

Good Story, A little long winded.

Overall I found it to be a good book. It just seems to be a little long-winded, the author obviously likes to be overdramatic in his writing style.

The narrator was good, but there is not enough variation in the different characters. I do like this narrator but that has been a consistent thing with all the books he has narrated in the past.

This book is definitely worth an audible credit. The story was very good although there were some plot holes.

World doesn't make sense

Has mind powers that people know about, but nobody ever suspects the use of mind powers. Also they don't have counters to mind powers or people that can fix the effects of mind powers.
The police basically prey on the poor (and are quick to use lethal force very openly),but are also supposed to care about corruption. Their recruits come from brainwashing "rehab" centers, but they're also smart free thinking individuals going against the facilities they came from. There is just so many contradictions and stuff that just doesn't make sense for a world that has powers.
The actual story, while somewhat predictable, was alright, but the whole world behind it is just a scrambled mess that is just not believable and constantly disengaged me from the story.

a work in progress

I am all for a little wish fulfillment, but it was hard to get all the way through this book. the power system is in need of refinements, with the supers not being knowledgeable and testing themself to their limits. I was able to come up with many uses for the "lower" classed supers that would have made them more useful. the protagonist seemed to be ok...but went from being a control freak to a all out psycho. her powers got to be fairly annoying, and went from a low power she had to have repetitive use to make work, to an almost all powerful compulsion power.....had she been that powerful in the beginning, she would have indoctrinate each student coming in and been unbeatable. Hopefully the writer will grow and any further books will be better. the style of writing worked, and I will give them a second try later.
