This was technically a “reread” I read Standstill when it came out last year & absolutely loved Ashlyn & Garrett’s story. Now, a year later getting to listen to their story? And revisit them? Absolutely amazing! The narration was excellent & the story was just as good the second time around.

Perfect standalone if you’re wanting to give a new author a shot! It’s hot, it’s a quickie & it’s a beautiful story about love, loss & growth.

Gridlock To Escape!

Standstill is a new adult standalone novel told in dual pov with the perspective of Ashlyn and Garrett. The writing style exhuberates deep thoughts and depth. The calamitious prologue is so heart-rending that pieces of your heart will shatter. Tear drops and tissue boxes, a beautiful lovestory with the sake of cherishble friends. I found the characters compelling with complex personalities. I loved getting the history and the timeline was tenable. I'm just sad to see it end as I loved it so much.

Narrator Verla Bond is a talented narator. Her performance was smooth and her sweet inflection was just perfect i loved her performance of the characters. She was ability to give the characters their own voice. I'm looking forward to listening to more audio's performed by this narator.

Heart breaking and love filled story!

You will not regret taking the time to listen to this story! Garrett and Ashlyn have spent years in heart ache and trying to overcome a great loss. That loss brings them together and tears them apart all at once. They use each other as a crutch but never face the truth and overcome their past. Listen and see how all this plays out in the end! It’s a beautifully written story that stays with you.

Emotional and Passionate

There are events that happen in life that shape who we are. Nicole Dykes has written a beautiful love story of a mutual loss, incredible heartache, love and healing. Ashlyn and Garrett both have experienced a tragedy at an impressionable age that has both locked them together and is tearing them apart. Their feelings for each other are evident, but the memories and guilt keep them apart. Will they ever let go of the past to move on to the future? This is my first Nicole Dykes book, and it definitely will not be my last. Romance stories like this, written with relevant issues, compassion and healing are one of my favorites. I love that it makes me feel and I learn and grow with the characters. This is an emotional story and Dykes truly had me, tears and all. I loved the journey Ashlyn and Garrett had, and it's a book that will stay with me.

Verla Bond narrates this gem. She immerses herself in the characters so we get all of their pain and grief, and at the same time fell their bond. She has tuned into each character and enhances the story with each line. I enjoyed her interpretation of the story and will be watching for more of her releases.

The journey

Ashlynn lost her best friend and Garrett lost the girl he loved that night and eight years later they have not moved on. This story is their journey to realizing how they feelings they have always had for each other. Loved listening to their journey defiantly a 5 star read from me.

loved this!

wow this was my first book by this author and I loved it so much. I wish it was 2 narrators because I wouldve loved to have heard Garrets voice as a man but thats just me because I am so use to listening to 2 narrators but overall, I LOVED IT SO MUCH! I will be reading this author over and over again!

Conflicted on my thoughts

This was my first listen by this author and although this type of sad romance is not my type It was not bad. I am conflicted on leaving a review as the book was not bad, the narration was alright but overall it focused so much on sad events I have a very hard time listening. As someone who has PTSD from a car accident and injuries sustained I would not have normally listened or finished however I was asked to leave a review.

Great story

This was a sweet, clean romance. Nikki Larsen has created a story that will pull at your heartstrings and make you fall in love with her characters. Rhonda Kravhmer does a fantastic job narrating and bringing the characters to life.

Absolutely PERFECT!!!

I read this book when it was first written and I absolutely LOVED Garrett and Ashlyn. They were truly each other’s other half. Even though these two totally frustrated me at times, I couldn’t get enough. Every time I thought they were getting their crap together BAM they would be a HOT MESS all over again.
I loved Garrett and finding out his truths solidified that Ashlyn is his true HEA. The love is in the words and Ms. Dykes is sure to deliver all the feels.

Now to be able to listen to the audio just makes it 10x better. The characters were really brought to life!! Loved the narration!

Standstill

This book shows the hard aches a group of friends go through after a tragic loss of a friend. Garrett and Ashlyn both feel guilty for having feelings for each other. They both were just making it through day by day not truly living life. When they finally pushed the guilt aside and gave into their true feelings for one another they both were happily in love with each other. Verla did a great job narrating.

Friends to lovers

I really enjoyed this audiobook, It's my first by the author and I really liked her writing. The narrator Verla Bond did a great job narrating it all. Ashlyn and Garrett's story hooked me up, I love friends to lovers story and this one hit the mark, I would've liked to know more about the world surrounding them and the rest of the characters. Love the angst and emotions it got me through the story. Definitely one I would recommend and look forward to more by this new author to me.

This is an absolute must read or listen! I shed so many tears while listening to this emotionally touching story. You couldn't help but to fall in love with the characters, storyline and writing. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing this book to life.

Great narration truly inspiring story

This beautiful story has been brought to live, This is my first audible by Nicole Dykes. This gives you all the feels with the narrator Verla Bond giving each character their own personality. The story is based around 5 friends with Asylynn and Garrett being the main characters. Hurt by the death of Garretts girlfriend Paige. Both Garrett and Ashlynn have feelings for each other but cannot move forward due to the guilt over Paige. Can love overcome and will Ashlynn and Garrett get their happily ever after.

It’s everything

I read this in book form some time ago, so when I saw it had been released in audio I knew I had to listen as the book was just so amazing, it’s one of those books that gives you all the feels, every single feel. Well I can definitely say that this was even better. The narrator did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life and giving it a lot of emotional depth through tone and pace.

I enjoyed this heartfelt story. I loved the characters and their beautiful friendships. A little angst in the middle but nothing to harsh. HEA. The narration is great I definitely recommend this book.

Beautiful, Heartfelt Story! Great Narration🎧

This is my first book written by Nicole Dykes and it certainly will not be my last. She is a gifted author, I enjoyed her writing style and the story and characters she created. The storylines are interesting and original, they grabbed my attention right from the start and held it straight to the end. The characters are complex and well developed, they are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. Ashlynn and Garrett have been friends since they were young, a devastating loss left both of them broken hearted and their lives were forever changed. They both struggled to move on from it, they lived their lives the best they could, becoming roommates and merely just existing. And when they finally open their eyes they see what they were denying themselves, true happiness and living their lives. This is one heartfelt story, it is cleverly plotted and there is never a dull moment in the book. My favorite line of the book is so true, moving and meaningful, “Life doesn’t every truly stand still~ Everything is constantly moving forward whether you move with it or not”. Nicole Dykes, thank you for for this amazing story and the emotional rollercoaster ride. I loved where you took the characters and their story.

Verla Bond is a fabulous narrator and voice artist. She brings the characters to life, gives each their own voice and personality, as well as heart and attitude. She does a great job portraying each character, capturing their persona and humanizing them with their emotions which is heard in her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen🎧
