Monster hunter and mechanic Mark Wojcik has his hands full protecting innocent monsters from horrible people and innocent people from horrible monsters.

His corner of rural Pennsylvania used to be relatively quiet—except for the ghosts, trolls, gnomes, and snallygasters. Then the Mob wars between the vampires and werewolves spilled over from the big city, along with supernatural bounty hunters, necromancer narcos, a monster trafficking ring, paranormal bookies, warring secret government agencies, and wicked witches.

To rein in the chaos, Mark will need to call on all his resources—Father Leo, Donny the Werewolf, the Scooby Gang of supernaturally-talented young adults he mentors, and other friends with the kind of special talents to handle things that go bump in the night. They're making it up as they go, breaking all the rules, and kicking monster butt.

This is what I call a popcorn read/listen. It's for those who love the monster genre without a whole of twists and turns. Enjoyable while multitasking with rememberable quips. Worth the time.

Fun

Oh my gods I’ve been waiting for this for a long time but it was worth the wait. I love this series and can’t wait for the next season! Please write faster. But in the mean time I think there are some connecting stories I need to find.

Ugh soooo good.

Seriously awesome stories!

I'd been waiting so long if given up hope.. was thrilled to see "Season 2"!!!
I've found the Badlands series (sexier than I expected and found myself wishing they had done the same with Mark and Sara) and Deadly Curiosities.. I love that the whole world overlaps ..
Absolutely love Rodger Wayne the narrator. I could listen to him all day.

Worth the wait

I really enjoyed this second installment. Great characters, sinister bad guys/monsters, tons of action… What more can you ask for, lol? Can’t wait until season three now!

Great stuff!

Rather than one long book, this is broken into multiple short stories. Those stories are sequential and really are essentially one long book.... but it's like reading a book where, at the beginning of each new chapter they have to reintroduce the characters and setting all over again with the exact same information you've already heard multiple times before. It does get tedious. That said, I did enjoy the book.... er, stories. The characters are people who you want to cheer for as they do their best in difficult situations. They protect vulnerable humans from dangerous creatures, but they also protect vulnerable creatures from dangerous humans. They take care of each other, and their 'downtime' lives are included as much as the more exciting adventures. There are plenty of cameo visits of characters who come from the other books in this world, which was a nice touch. I liked the background information for the locations they visited, and the folklore critters they encountered.

loved the series both 1 & 2. However, two ends on a semi cliff hanger and it doesn't look like they ever wrote a season 3?!?
I liked the narrators voice so well that I've gone looking for other books he narrated. I found a couple of other books that sounded interesting and promptly purchased them because of the narrator, not the author. 🤷

narrators potrail of MMC voice seems perfect for character

While Season One’s four novellas had unique plots and original/rare creatures, this Season leaned more on traditional witches, shifters, and vampires. This season also attempted to connect the novellas with a plot about competing groups and big conspiracies; trying to bring complex plots to stories with simple characters, however, didn’t work for me.

There’s not much in the way of character development beyond the repetition of the same info dumps in each novella (Mark lost his family to a wendigo, his wife left him because she couldn’t deal with the supernatural suck, Mark’s a mechanic by day … who never does anything mechanical). Eight novellas in and Mark hasn’t changed, nor have we learned anything about him that we didn’t learn at novella 1. Supporting characters have even less development (ex: Kiara has a girlfriend and knows supernatural stuff). Even my favorite dorky werewolf Donnie was little more than a punchline.

It’s easy listening, with no sex, minimal cussing, and LGBTQ friendly. I just wish it had stuck to self contained stories with standard mysteries featuring non-standard creatures.

Already getting stale in Season Two
