Publisher's summary

After a terrible mass shooting at Cicero’s Circus, the evil presence responsible for the carnage is taken in by a doomsday cult lying in wait for such an opportunity.

The village struggles to get back to normal in the aftermath of the shooting. The massacre was the final straw for many inhabitants, triggering a mass exodus. Families left their homes without looking back, not even to find out what could have caused such a tragedy. However, to those who know the truth - that a malevolent god unleashed its wrath upon the village - it’s only a matter of time before events repeat themselves.

Venus McKenzie ventures deeper into the pit of secrets left in death’s wake, praying that what she’ll find will help her against the dark forces she couldn’t defeat before.

Disappointing narrator

I’ve never felt so brought out of a story by a narrator before. The doofus voice he does for Abe feels like character assassination and makes it hard to take his chapters seriously. Pronunciation of French is pretty poor (LonGAY felt particularly heinous). I thought it was me just not liking his voice at first but there are serious problems with this performance including poorly masked cuts. I wish more attention was taken as this is a great story.

Strong Sequel Singing Sortilege of Savagery

There’s a cult. A god no one really understands. Ancient rituals, revenge, and unrequited teenage love. Throw in some street cops, a missing girl, families with issues that make your family look normal, and sordid and sundry savage acts on the human body and you get this lovely serenade. Enjoy.

A Nice Follow Up

As a follow up to A God in the Shed, this story answers many of the questions from the first. Much of the story feels like a different genre as the “horror” is not as evident or frontal focused like the first book. However, once it gets going, it doesn’t stop. This was a great world building book, connecting cities and showing how the god and the powers that be aren’t confined to one small town. I do think this book would work better as a visual story, but was still very engaging and enjoyable. Those last 2 hours were almost impossible to stop listening to! The payoff is worth your patience.

An awesome sequel

This sequel really expanded on the world. The characters depth increased, the darkness got darker and the story blew me away. My only gripe is that it took so long for it to come out. But if time is what it takes to deliver the way D-F Dubeau has, then I’ll happily wait.
