Publisher's summary

On the Oestend prairie, only the strong survive.

Artist Aren Montrell has heard tales of the Oestend wraiths - mysterious creatures that come in the night and kill anyone who’s not indoors. Aren’s never believed the stories, but when he takes a job as a bookkeeper on the BarChi, a dusty cattle ranch in the furthest reaches of Oestend, he learns the wraiths are very real. And they’re only one of the many dangers in the wild, treacherous place he now calls home.

Aren becomes the one and only confidant of Deacon, the BarChi’s burly foreman. Deacon runs the BarChi with an iron fist and is glad to finally have a friend. But Deacon is a man with many secrets. He’s determined to deny both his Oestend heritage and any claim he may have to the BarChi ranch. If Aren wants to survive the perils of the prairie, he’ll have to convince Deacon to stop running from the past and finally claim everything that’s his.

Symbols and the Unknown

What a wonderful and well-crafted book – everything from the world building to the characters enchanted me and sucked me right into the story. Song of Oestend is the first book in the Oestend duet, a paranormal/sci-fi wild-wild-West series that explores many difficult and intriguing topics and themes. I was not sure what to expect when I started this book, but it completely took all of my pre-conceived notions and threw them out the window. I found this story to not only be unique and fascinating, but also tender and sweet with some extremely steamy sex scenes.

The audiobook was narrated by John Solo who does an incredible job voicing all the characters and making the audiobook just as enthralling as the book version. The audiobook production was well done – overall, this was quality work from the narration to the production to the story. I will definitely pick up the next book in the series.

Loved the story and the characters

Very well written, with an unusual kind of fantasy storyline, interesting characters and hot romance.

Great world building

I got this book mainly because I liked the cover, Westerns are usually not my thing. But I was pleasantly surprised. This is much more of a fantasy novel than a Western even though it takes place on a ranch - in a different world than ours. The world building is very good and all the characters are interesting and well written, I look forward to reading more about them in the next book. It takes the MCs about half the book to come together, but after that there’s a lot of very hot sex with some elements of BDSM and a threesome.

Great book. Poorly Narrated

Really enjoyed the story of this book. Listening to John Solo is like nails on a chalkboard, uhg he ruins so many good books.

Enjoyed It a Lot

This was a great story full of suspense, romance, and mystery. Both Aren and Deacon were interesting characters by themselves and amazingly hot together. I did not expect this book to have so much spirituality and emotions and steamy sexy times were such a nice surprise. Narrator did a good job with story and character voices and chanting. I enjoyed this first book in Oestend series and looking forward to the next story.

Early cowboys in a strange land

This story is strange and there is love that might have you listening far into the night ,only horses and horse and carts to travel in and only rivers for a bath and no going out in the dark, your life depends on it. brilliantly narrated.

Amazing book with amazing narration

Thank you was the first that came to me when I finished this book. What else can I say?
The environment and characters are so well built. It’s a story in old western settings with a taste of paranormal mystery. The dynamic between Aren and Deacon takes a for me unexpected turn but it makes sense and are so hot!

John Solo takes you to this magic place with his acting and on top of that, the chanting. Amazing!

Superb!

Marie Sexton is a wonderful author. The way she portraits the characters and develops the plot is something else. I as a reader know that once I start reading/hearing will not stop until I reach the end. Plus this book is narrated by the John Solo, who does a phenomenal work narrating this book. The way he narrates brings even more emotion into play. I loved it!

Fabulous! John Solo is Perfect

This novel has everything. A fantastic paranormal mystery, historical-style in feeling with all the old western-y elements, and hot rancher + bookish (closet sex-pot). What more could anyone ask... plus written by Marie Sexton and performed by John Solo. It was fabulous!!!

John Solo's performance is really something special. He's truly acting in this emotional story. Singing, chanting, and emoting - just lovely.
