Young adult

Son of a Witch
My review is based on book 1 and 2 in the Witch Squad series. (no spoilers)
After finishing book 1, I wasn’t really engaged or hooked on the series, but I couldn’t put my finger on why. There wasn’t an obvious thing I disliked.
So I decided to listen to book 2 before writing my review.

Now having finished book 2, I can say with certainty this series isn’t a good fit for me.
Book 2 had a high ‘young adult vibe’. It’s not very serious, but also not very funny.
I had some moral issues with some of the things that happen and I noticed some inconsistencies.
I did like that both book 1 and 2 have a completed story arc. I always appreciate that very much in a series.
And I enjoyed book 1 much more than book 2.

The narration was good.
The only thing I disliked about the performance was the character voice of one of the girls. It was permanently whiny.
I understand it’s a challenge to try and give everyone a distinct character voice, but I would rather have several character voices sound the same, than having to listen to such a whiny character voice. Very hard to take that character serious because of the way she was narrated.

I got this Audio Book for free (thanks!). I'm voluntarily leaving this review.

Loved this 2nd book

Murder, talking animals, ghosts; what else could you ask for? It gets even better. Love this authors writing style and the narrator sounds like she's having fun while narrating which draws me in even more. Witch squad will cast a spell on you.

I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be looking into getting the rest of the series.
I love the quirky cast of characters and found if I wasn't laughing I was puzzling out the mystery with them.
The witch squad are drawn back into a murder when Mercy's brother is accused of the murder, but when each member of the team starts crushing on him, can they put their differences behind them and work together to solve the case.
The narrator was a great choice for the story but some of the voices did sound funny.

Fantastic Series of Books!!

This was book 2 and as soon as I had finished book 1, I reached for this one. This certainly did not disappoint. Yet again, right from the beginning you are back in there with them all. You really do feel part of it. I have already raved about this narrator but again, outstanding. You really do need to read these books in order, otherwise you will miss out on a lot of information. The plot of this one was great. It certainly kept me awake into the early hours of the morning. I guess that is the downside when the book is THAT good!! This book was given to me for free at my request and I have provided this voluntary review.

Sit back and join in the fun

I really enjoyed this book. This is the second book in the series and although there are stand alone books I would recommend you start at book one and work your way through the series, well that is what I am doing. I love the cast of characters and the fact that they are all so different, it really works well and makes the stories more interesting, from bubbly Sweets to grumpy Alba, each character is a delight and I look forward to learning more about them. I liked the way the girls turned to magic to make Mercy's brother fall in love with them and the way it backfires adds a light funny side to the mysteries. Definitely a fun cozy mystery with a twist you don't see coming.
Mercy is out on a date with Huston when she gets a phone call from the brother she has only just learnt about. He is in town and In trouble. Big trouble, the kind of trouble her mother would want her to get him out of. Good thing Mercy can talk to ghosts because the dead girl he woke up next to needs help to find her killer before she can move on. Nobody knows and her boyfriend had returned back to town so the suspect pool is small and the prime suspect is Mercy's brother Reign. Mercy just wants to get to know her brother but as girl code doesn't seem to apply will competing for Reign's affections drive a wedge between the friends? The witch squad might just have to solve yet another murder first?
I liked the narrator she definitely uses a variety of voices for the characters, each of them sounding different from bubbly to moody.
