Story
Morgan's life is not easy. Growing up on the streets of City Four, he is constantly shunned by the other citizens. Morgan doesn't mind being ignored. What he does mind, though, are the constant beatings from the city guards due to his friendship with Sarah, the city lord's only daughter. Lord Simon wants him dead, but the laws of the kingdom are on Morgan’s side and even the guards won't kill him, just for being seen near his manor. Morgan’s time is running out, though. Lord Simon has deep pockets and his last visit to the manor may just have put him over the edge.

Joe takes his first step into exile, and is promptly unable to breathe. This new Zone has a higher concentration of power, magnitudes denser. His first task is to survive, but mere survival is the least of his concerns. The Zone he has landed on has been in a state of constant war for thousands of years, a tug of war between the Elven and Dwarven societies. Not choosing a side is the same as declaring both to be your personal enemy. Though he is resistant, Joe reluctantly decides to go with the group he thinks will help him grow the most.

Publisher's Summary
Long ago, Samuel created the four Pinnacle Kings, beasts of immense power and destruction. Unable to contain their power, he sealed these four beasts himself. However, the rules forbade him from making the seal unbreakable.
Octagon the Bitter, Pinnacle King of Winter, has awakened. His influence is spreading, and the North Kingdom is already feeling the consequences.
Sealed away and finding himself unable to intervene, Samuel makes a drastic decision - one that will change the very rules by which the Five Kingdoms operate.
The end of the world has begun...

What are the rules?
I just cannot figure out the rules to this magic system it just keeps fluctuating on the feel of them. The costs of skills in the fight seem arbitrary, the stats seem arbitrary when the plot demands it, characters can unlock super powerful skills somehow, and beasts in beast zones can just continue to can power after they have been killed.
The bad guys just are super good at doing things when the plot demands, like sneaking. Many homeless people go missing and there is no one in that city putting the pieces together, not even another homeless person? I guess no one has enough INT to figure out any plan that the Pinnicale King makes.
If you can turn your brain off it can be an interesting book, but this entire series has fundamental problems that just keep me from really enjoying them.

Story seems to be stalling.
A whole world and this is the only guy that is strong enough for anything. If it was the range of a city maybe but the whole world and there's no one else excited about no longer being capped. Plus the guy just got his feelings back and two important people are taken from him. He has no idea how to handle emotions, but still shrugs it off. Maybe if he only got about ten percent of his feelings off sounds about right. I did like the intelligent beast popping up, that was interesting.
