Publisher's Summary

You couldn't really tell about Mama's brain just from looking at her, but it was obvious as soon as she spoke. She had a high voice, like a little girl's, and she only knew 23 words. I know this for a fact, because we kept a list of the things Mama said tacked to the inside of the kitchen cabinet. Most of the words were common ones, like good and more and hot, but there was one word only my mother said, soof.

Although she lives an unconventional lifestyle with her mentally disabled mother and their doting neighbor, Bernadette, Heidi has a lucky streak that has a way of pointing her in the right direction. When a mysterious word in her mother's vocabulary begins to haunt her, Heidi's thirst for the truth leads her on a cross-country journey in search of the secrets of her past.

Exquisitely written; perfectly read

I've had "So B. It" on my wish list for months, based simply on the intriguing description. Now I am only sorry I didn't get it sooner just so I could tell more people how wonderful it is. The story is almost magical in its beauty and the narration only enhances that beauty. According to other sources this is a book written for young people, ages 9-12, but I have grandchildren older than that! This is a story written for all ages. I normally choose audiobooks of epic length, often in the mystery or thriller categories, or non-fiction in a variety of fields, but "So B. It" could equally be classified as mystery, thriller, chick-lit or self-improvement, not to mention children's literature. Truly a story for all ages, to be read over and over again. Soof!

This is destined to be a classic. Sarah Weeks, more, please!

Audio books don't get better than this

In fact, no book gets better than this. It is beautiful, sad, thrilling and perhaps the best book I have read/heard in years. Sarah Weeks tells more story in 4 and 1/2 hours than most best selling authors tell in a lifetime.

The narrator is every bit as good as the author--a perfect match. Don't hesitate. This is a surefire winner for your next download.

Read it before. Still great.

I picked this book up when i was 11. ( Basically the only book i loved besides harry potter). I am now, 22 and thought about it for months and then, had a free audio book! and found it again. Emotional. Made me think about life...differently back then and did it again, now. Innocent. Sweet. Interesting. The "performance" was really nice!!!

for young adults?

The summary provided by Audible does not mention this is a book intended for young readers. Not sure age, perhaps grades 6-9. Audible should correct the description to mention this.

Although written for young readers, I wouldn't recommend. The story is disturbing because Heidi has survived in a trapped and highly limiting life, and without much capable adult presence. Then she has to travel with no protection. Are the portrayals of mentally impaired adults realistic? They have tantrums and can hardly be managed by those who care for them, not a balanced or favorable portrayal.

I found the book very, very..... slow moving. The pace was irritating.

Wonderful

I really loved reading this book when I was growing and just being able to listen to it reminded me of why. It’s a wonderful tale of a girl searching for answers of who she is but also learns so much on the way towards them.

interesting, it’s a good book to read from time to time, the audio can be a little annoying , but the story is realistic and relatable in a sense .

Great book!!!

I loved the book but the one thing that could have been better was the narration but everything else was excellent.
