Publisher's summary

In "the most suspenseful book I read all year" (Stephen King), a psychologist faces off against a killer who destroys his victims from the inside out.

Joe O'Loughlin is in familiar territory--standing on a bridge high above a flooded gorge, trying to stop a distraught woman from jumping. "You don't understand," she whispers and lets go. Joe is haunted by his failure to save the woman until her teenage daughter finds him and reveals that her mother never would have committed suicide--not like that. She was terrified of heights.

What could have driven her to commit such a desperate act? Whose voice? What evil? Having devoted his career to repairing damaged minds, Joe must now confront an adversary who tears them apart.

With pitch-perfect dialogue, believable characters, and astonishingly unpredictable plot twists, Shatter is guaranteed to keep even the most avid thriller readers riveted long into the night.

Good listen - Ending left much to be desired

I haven't listened to any of the other books in the series so my review is limited to only this story. This book definately kept me listening. The storyline was captivating. However, I felt that many of the characters were unnecessary to the storyline. I had also hoped for a more twisted ending, since the story placed so much emphasis on psychology. I kept waiting for a big twist that never came.

Wow! Twisted and chilling.

Masterfully told however it is a bit graphic and it's definitely twisted. I would recommend it if you don't mind graphic tales.

Kept me listening but not on the edge of my seat

This was a nice thriller. It kept me listening but not on the edge of my seat as others have described. I found Julianne, the wife’s, character very irritating and didn’t lIke the way it ended with the prologue. I thought some loose ends between what Gideon said and the outcome would be tied up a little better in the end. Overall a decent book with a great performance by the reader.

Exceptional!

Michael Robotham is a new author to me. Just finished listening to Shatter which is my third book in about three weeks. I first listened to The Secrets She Keeps and then Suspect. Each has had excellent narrators. Stories are compelling with much intrigue plus superb character and theme development with many added twists along the way. I walk and drive a lot (live in Chicago) so have found Mr. Robotham's books the perfect distraction from today's world of crazy politics and heartbreaking disasters. My husband is from England and much of the geography is very familiar. Can't wait to read/listen to next book!

MY FAVORITE SO FAR!

This series just keeps getting better! Realistic psychological suspense. Characters with heart and imperfections. Enjoy!

Another great Joe O'Loughlin story

An enjoyable book, well paced and well written with twists and turns a plenty, so that even when I knew who did it there was still enough suspense and I was invested in the characters to keep listening.

Love the series.

And I'm going through them in order, one by one.

But God, this guy gives me a pain with his whining, oversharing, out-of-control lack of judgment. If I were the wife, I'd have put him out with the milk bottles a long time ago.

😆

Mrs. Gary Thomas

twisted

Although it was tough as a parent to listen to some of the graphic depiction of what being done to the children, it was another good book!

Perfect like always

I think the story of women dying was kind of the same but I liked the twist. I liked touching the fact that when we use human mind for wrong plans, that will change a person. It was heavy and sad at the time. I like that even though I knew who is the killer, still was interested to know how their mind work. I love Joe personality! In real life, is there any man like him !
