Publisher's summary

A wish is the strongest form of magic. It's also the most dangerous.

For psychic Charlie Payne being haunted is an everyday experience. When Charlie agrees to help her cousin forage for furniture at an auction she expects to steer her cousin clear of any lingering spirits. But a child's wish makes that impossible. When her cousin brings home an object with a ghost-child attached to it, Charlie finds herself drawn into a 60-year-old mystery.

Her instinct is to help the child move toward the light. But the deeper she digs, the more she realizes that some things should stay buried, because a spirit guarding a secret will do whatever it takes to protect it, including kill.

Shadow Child is the sixth book in the Witches of Palmetto Point series. If you like spine-tingling supernatural suspense, witches, ghosts, and other paranormal creatures then you will love the Witches of Palmetto Point series.

love wendy wang, narrator not so much

I've loved all of wendy Wang's books, but when the narrator changed it went downhill for me. the first narrator was awesome and made the story come alive in my mind. the most recent narrator is nails on a chalkboard! I couldn't even finish the book and that saddens me. if I had time to actually sit a read, I'd get the paper copies, but I don't have that kind of time which is why I chose audible a few years back. Ms. Wang, I love your books and you do a superb job but this latest narrator has to go 😔

Good book but terrible narrator

I’m so disappointed. The narrator is so annoying. Her voice for Charlie and the male characters are fine. BUT…. Jen, Lisa, Daphne, 13 yo Evan and 6 yo Ruby all sound like they should be part of Alvin and the Chipmunks. They literally all sound the same - ridiculously high voice for grown women. You can’t tell the difference between 6 yo Ruby and Lisa - a professional female attorney. This narrator does not do the book justice. I’d be interested in going forward with the other books in the series but I couldn’t possibly listen to any more baby talking characters. I’d rather listen to nails on a chalkboard.
I suggest reading the books yourself as the stories are great and the author is very talented.

One of the best of the series

I have really enjoyed the series but at times the story becomes background noise. This one kept me interested all the way through!

good book but.....

love the story but this narrator is on my last nerve. She makes the cousins all sound like Minnie Mouse or one of the Powerpuff Girls. Grown women DON'T speak that way. And Charli, who is supposed to be Southern has barely any accent.
I don't know if I can finish the series.

Shadow Child

Well, Wendy, I am enthralled with this family, friends and familiars. It’s like going home, sitting down and listening to the days happenings.
I am starting on the next book right now.

Almost Unbearable Narration

The narration is terrible. The “southern”accents are painful. If a book has southern characters, please please please get a southern narrator. The narrator’s different inflections for the different characters are eye rolling. The women sound like children and the children sound like robots. The story was okay but I would be curious to know how many times the phrase so and so “said” is used. It may not be so bad reading the book but listening to it is distracting and takes away from the story. Hopefully the next story is better and the narrator is different. I’ve become invested in this series.

Enjoyable, we liked it. Not as good as the ones before or after. But still enjoyable.

We learn about family..

Finally - more about the family!! Ruby is more at the center and not as in the previous books, but people aren’t as they appear. What you’ll find; relationships deepen, jobs are on the line, more spirit encounters, and Jack needs more than one “Jack” because of Tom - and let’s just say- you never know what kind of wishing will get Ruby into trouble. Don’t worry though - some ghosts still hang around..Another amazing story - let’s go audible release the rest already!

Just keep reading, or listening so I don’t get away any spoilers!
