Publisher's Summary

Molly Harper is back with the next wickedly funny, wildly enchanting Mystic Bayou novel - available in audio first!

Sonja Fong isn’t afraid of a little chaos. As director of the League’s research center in Mystic Bayou, a tiny town in Louisiana that’s home to supernatural creatures and humans alike, she’s responsible for making sure things run smoothly. It’s not an easy task when her daily memos include lines like “new equipment is needed because the old equipment was destroyed by a temper tantrum involving dragonfire.”

Her job puts her in the path of Dr. Will Carmody, a mysterious shifter who’s returned to Mystic Bayou after a long absence only to find that he’s now considered an outsider. To make matters worse, the rift - a tear in the fabric of the universe that is leaking supernatural energy into the bayou - is unraveling at an alarming rate. Now Sonja and Will must team up to fix the rift and save Mystic Bayou from certain disaster, all while their own romance is heating up. Can they have a future together while the whole world is falling apart?

Fun, schmaltzy, predictable in all the right ways

I think I love Molly Harper. Yes, her books are predictable. Yes, I knew who the villan was from the moment she/he entered the story. Yes, the books could be longer. They are also fun, escapist, hilarious, magical romance tales that leave you smiling and hoping all the main characters are real people and Mystic Bayou is a real place. Good times..

Dares to be different.

I'm not usually drawn to paranormal stories, but Selkies Are A Girl's Best Friend could have me changing my point of view. Harper creates a world where being unique is not the exception, but the rule. Mystic Bayou is a place of acceptance that could teach us a lot in the real world. Sonja and the mysterious Will are our tour guides into a world full of chaos and humor. In an ever changing climate, it's the ability to unite in the scary moments that makes Mystic Bayou an eclectically, beautiful canvas. What I love most about Molly Harper is that she dares to be different. With the help of a dangerously smart and wickedly funny group of characters, as well as topnotch vocal talent, Selkies touched the dreamer in me that I often forget still exists.

I love this series so much and can't wait for the next book! These are also two of my favorite narrators.

#selkielove

I really enjoyed this book! I was waiting for Sonya's story and it did not disappoint. This was a good, easy listen. And of course the characters from the previous books made it all the better.

Too short

I liked it but it felt rushed. The story was way too short. I wanted more to happen or get further into the rift issue.

Still looking forward to the next installment.

Repetitive, but still good

Not sure how to state it without spoilers, but as far as climactic moments- this next part in the series isnt exactly offering anything new or unexpected. I still enjoy the story a ton and am looking forward to the next in the series!

Losing her touch?

The Mystic Bayou series is a guilty pleasure, the stories are entertaining and pass the time for my daily commute. I’ve listened to all of them. But this last, “Selkies are a Girl’s Best Friend” seems to mark the start of the decline in the series. They’re all fairly predicable and repetitive. By the time we get to this one the standard trope has lost its appeal and is flat out boring. Sonia is described in all previous novels as being terrifyingly competent and intimidating. But sadly in her own story she’s the same confused, blibbering idiot all the other central character women are. She has super-spy parents and is described as an unflappable superhero in all social settings yet gets unnerved and doesn’t know how to deal with a coworker hitting on her? If she’s as smoking hot and amazing as described she’d be a dab hand at turning away overzealous coworkers by now. And the super-predictable villain dragging her to the rift and her love finding her in the nick of time? Yawn. Same ending every time. Eh.... time to look for a new series.

Finally an Asian-ish woman

As much as I love listening/ reading romance novels, we don't get enough women of different color as the main character. Loved how Sonja Fong wasn't overly sexualized in the standard Asian "exotic" way that most main stream media/ arts do it. Good listen overall!

Switzerland

I really enjoy this story theme, the unfolding of characters and Molly’s use of language. One of my favorites is “The Switzerland of facial expressions” showing how creatively and effectively Molly describes what is going on. There is nothing dull about the writing, nor is it commonplace. This is the third story I’ve read in this series and each one further develops some key characters initially introduced and keeps the reader engrossed the entire time. It’s also a great education into obscure mythological (mostly) creatures. I’m fairly well versed in magical creatures but she has included a number I’ve never heard of, which increasing the fascination with the story line. Well done Molly Harper.

Oh no, it ended!

I was loving this, I got my HEA but I want more. Please give me more!

Until theres more I'll just explain, this is book three in the series, they work best in order as they follow chronologically and you learn more about the earlier protagonists You can read them out of order but please don't tell me, it makes me twitch.

Now I need to check where book 4 is and why I haven't got it already.

Another entertaining story from Mystic Bayou

Mystic Bayou is a great place for magique creatures, their weird shifting powers and pie. This seems to be my go-to books when I have bad headaches. Funny and light, with a touch of mystery, these are great stories to have fun with. They're particularly nice to listen to because both narrators do a wonderful job.

Good! Can’t wait for book 4

This series gets better - except for 1 niggle - I do wish that the tedious predictable kidnapping, rift dumping, hero rescue, scene was reworked and re-imagined. It would have lost 2 stars, but the ending is ADORABLE!

Love me a Molly Harper Audible Book

I’ve never met a Molly Harper Audible book that I haven’t loved. Amanda Ronconi & Jonathon Davis do such a wonderful job, I go for the Audible over the print versions every time. This one was another light-hearted, engaging, fun and frivolous listen and brought a smile to my face throughout.
