Publisher's Summary

Molly Harper is back with the next wickedly funny, wildly enchanting Mystic Bayou novel - available in audio first!

Sonja Fong isn’t afraid of a little chaos. As director of the League’s research center in Mystic Bayou, a tiny town in Louisiana that’s home to supernatural creatures and humans alike, she’s responsible for making sure things run smoothly. It’s not an easy task when her daily memos include lines like “new equipment is needed because the old equipment was destroyed by a temper tantrum involving dragonfire.”

Her job puts her in the path of Dr. Will Carmody, a mysterious shifter who’s returned to Mystic Bayou after a long absence only to find that he’s now considered an outsider. To make matters worse, the rift - a tear in the fabric of the universe that is leaking supernatural energy into the bayou - is unraveling at an alarming rate. Now Sonja and Will must team up to fix the rift and save Mystic Bayou from certain disaster, all while their own romance is heating up. Can they have a future together while the whole world is falling apart?

Dares to be different.

I'm not usually drawn to paranormal stories, but Selkies Are A Girl's Best Friend could have me changing my point of view. Harper creates a world where being unique is not the exception, but the rule. Mystic Bayou is a place of acceptance that could teach us a lot in the real world. Sonja and the mysterious Will are our tour guides into a world full of chaos and humor. In an ever changing climate, it's the ability to unite in the scary moments that makes Mystic Bayou an eclectically, beautiful canvas. What I love most about Molly Harper is that she dares to be different. With the help of a dangerously smart and wickedly funny group of characters, as well as topnotch vocal talent, Selkies touched the dreamer in me that I often forget still exists.

Fun, schmaltzy, predictable in all the right ways

I think I love Molly Harper. Yes, her books are predictable. Yes, I knew who the villan was from the moment she/he entered the story. Yes, the books could be longer. They are also fun, escapist, hilarious, magical romance tales that leave you smiling and hoping all the main characters are real people and Mystic Bayou is a real place. Good times..

Selkies, magic and love oh my.....

Oh my sweet tea!! Sonja finally gets her story!! *Happy Dance*

I really enjoyed this story! It was great to see tough as nails Sonja find her weakness. Who just happens to be in the form of a Selkie. Will is great too! He is just the perfect amount of damaged for Sonja. It was great to watch (listen) them both overcome their insecurities about a relationship. I can’t wait to see what is next in this series!!! I really really hope that we will learn more about Mr. & Mrs. Fong!!

As always I listened to this book on audio. Thank you Audible.com for making this book free to members :). Amanda Ronconi is amazing as always!! And even though I am not a fan of the dual narrators in an audiobook Jonathon Davis is growing on me. I look forward to the next installment in this series.

love Mystic Bayou... want more

I want more... Molly Harper is hands down one of my favorite authors. Her combination of humor, action, and paranormal characters is one of the best in the genre.

Another brilliant narration by Amanda Ronconi and team.

I really enjoyed this book! I was waiting for Sonya's story and it did not disappoint. This was a good, easy listen. And of course the characters from the previous books made it all the better.

a little disappointing

Ok, so being a Louisiana girl, I can overlook many things, especially in the pronunciation category, but Houma is "Home-ah" and nobody in their right minds says crayfish in the south. Not even my Filipino Hawaiian family say that, and they eat them, too.

That being said, I think the author is in a loop. I really love these stories, but I think we have seen the same plotline before, so I was disappointed. I hope this is building to something bigger in the next storyline.

Too short

I liked it but it felt rushed. The story was way too short. I wanted more to happen or get further into the rift issue.

Still looking forward to the next installment.

strong characters with a soft side

every book I've read by this author has been an excellent escape from everyday life. the only improvement I'd make is find creative ways to swear instead of taking the easy way out with an f or s. this author is so creative, I'm sure it wouldn't take much thought to find alternatives. the town and the people that live there are easy to love and hate and wish you knew all at once. part of the fun is meeting a new character and wondering if they'll be the next featured character in a future book.

Like sea foam - so insubstantial it barely touches

I had issue with this book from the first line; "Sonia didn't need superpowers, she had formidable wifi ..." Oh God no. And then Sonia met a handsome man & wished she was wearing designer clothes. Sigh. Really? Aren't we past that?

I gritted my teeth and listened on and, yes, it did get better. The narrators are fabulous, but the plot is so so obvious it took a lot of the enjoyment away for me. There is some fun banter, some genuine jokes but I really couldn't bond with the characters as they don't have any depth at all. And yes, I do understand that this is romantic chick lit about supernatural creatures so its not exactly MEANT to be that challenging but still. It's been done better. Molly Harper's done it better. This book feels like she's just rattled it off for the cash.

The Mystic Bayou series is worth a shot, just not this book. Not a keeper for me.

I want to live in Mystic Bayou

I've listened to every book except the last one and just love Mystic Bayou, yes sometimes the stories are obvious or a little slow but honestly I love the characters and am so enjoying getting further and further into the town and it's residents. The narrators do a great job and I'm in love with the southern accents.

Romance with a slight twist, fun but not great.

The book, from the Mystic Bayou series, is slightly predictable and it didn't take too much to work out what was going on.

I would like the characters have far more depth. There is a sense of formulated plot that I did not find in the earlier stories.

fun but not great.

Great book!

Loved this book - Sonja and Will have an interesting relationship and it is explored really well in this book. It was great to meet a new species of shifter too. Another great narration job by Amanda and Jonathan. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Harper seems to have lost her touch :(

The first couple of books were so much fun! But this one lacks any charm. I'm halfway through and there's no story. We're just following people's boring life. No mystery, no excitement, nothing. Narration is as usual excellent but it's not enough. Gave up on it now, life's too short.

Oh no, it ended!

I was loving this, I got my HEA but I want more. Please give me more!

Until theres more I'll just explain, this is book three in the series, they work best in order as they follow chronologically and you learn more about the earlier protagonists You can read them out of order but please don't tell me, it makes me twitch.

Now I need to check where book 4 is and why I haven't got it already.

just loving it

and Sonia becomes less professional and a bit more personable.
and the one liners, jokes, clever dialogue and Zed just keep getting better.
loved the little angst story going on here, of course it's right up Sonias alley. Molly Harper's fanciful storyline is awesome. I have said before, I normally listen to the other end of the spectrum...normally...but the humour is so refreshing. And I do believe listening to an author than can write good humour is a tough nut to crack... however the best nut has been cracked...Zed, be it his story or his input, in my opinion, he makes the story. the banter between him Bael and now Will, it's pure laugh material. the underlying plot that's moving through the series is beginning to make me wonder how Molly is going to wrap it up. she's bringing all the favourite characters together so it will be interesting.
a bit more romance than detective work in this one but another shifter joins the ranks.
the narrator's are fast becoming my faves. great tone inflections by both and Jonathon has Zeds voice to a T.

An enjoyable series to binge

I'm really enjoying listening to the Mystic Bayou series - each instalment features a different couple as the main characters, but the Rift plot carries on across the series. The locals are all rather quirky, which does create many humorous moments between the characters.

Love me a Molly Harper Audible Book

I’ve never met a Molly Harper Audible book that I haven’t loved. Amanda Ronconi & Jonathon Davis do such a wonderful job, I go for the Audible over the print versions every time. This one was another light-hearted, engaging, fun and frivolous listen and brought a smile to my face throughout.
