Story
A Goddess is stirring up trouble, and Arthur happens to be the one caught up in the action. After an unfortunate encounter, Arthur is given a second chance in a new world. To his surprise, this new world has mechanics that remind him of role-playing games from Earth. He has been given a simple directive from the Goddess, to help the people of the world and spread her name. He quickly discovers this will not be an easy task. The world has been overrun with bandits, who work for the lords of the land and cause all the denizens to live in abject ruin.

His first task is to survive, but mere survival is the least of his concerns. The Zone he has landed on has been in a state of constant war for thousands of years, a tug of war between the Elven and Dwarven societies. Publisher's Summary
What if you could guarantee life after death?
Denton Wade is dying.
And Cyberternal Industries has the answer. An answer he isn't willing to accept: life everlasting in a game world of fantasy, swords, and magic.
EndWorld Everlasting. A man-made afterlife. It goes against everything he's always believed in.
But there might still be hope. And hope is a very dangerous thing.
Far below their headquarters in Dallas, Texas, Cyberternal has been working on a secret medical program. A program made available to Denton though his personal, if not complicated, connection to an assistant vice president at the powerful company.
After agreeing to undergo the procedure, Denton finds himself awakening to a strange, new world. A world he never wanted.
Second Chance is the first book in the series A Battlemage Reborn, and is a gamelit fantasy adventure with soft litRPG elements set in the digital world of EndWorld Everlasting.

MC so annoying
The story wasn’t bad but what takes away from the story is the MC. Through out the whole story he continues to doubt himself all the time even in situations where it isn’t warranted. Makes the story super depressing at times. This would be very good if not for the MC. The narrator did a very good job he was only reason I listened to whole book.

Poignant and Amazing!
I really, really loved this story. It felt feel like a more complete arc than you normally get in the first book of a series. The characters felt incredibly real and complex and the world feels well thought out and complete. So far no plot holes to fall into. I cried real tears as I listened to Denton struggle to want to live without his family and laughed out loud at Eli’s shenanigans. So good and so fulfilling, can’t wait for the next story in the series.

I couldn't get through this.
I really struggle with protagonists like this.
This guy takes self-deprecating to a whole new level.
Combine that with a rubber spine and a level of naivety not suited to a man of his age and I just couldn't connect with this story at all.
Not for me.

If you are over 20 give this a pass...
This book has all the depth of a Saturday morning cartoon. This is not a LIT RPG for those that like LIT RPG's. This book is for people who have never played an MMORPG or video games in general. The whole story is one softball toss after another. The main character should have been a 16 year old boy not a 30 to 45 year old man. The main character has all the stamina of Forrest gump but filled with doubt instead of optimism. All that aside solid writing, nice flow throughout, and I hope to pick up the 2nd book as soon as it's on sale.

A bit too dramatic, a bit depressing
If you look at the plot, this can be a very good series. However, the plot connections are too convenient and way too dramatic. Add in the constant self doubt and deprecating tone, and you might need therapy after listening.
The reader of the story amplified the tone of the book and subtracts from the story.

Very Enjoyable
I really enjoyed listening to this book. It has a very different flow to it than most of the other books in this genre that I have listened to. The author is completely gifted in the art of detail and description, making it easy to really picture everything and feel more connected to the story. I loved really getting to know the characters, and because it moves at a slower pace you really have time to understand and find a way to relate to each one (which I love). I am usually pretty good at guessing what is going to happen next in these books, but the twists and turns this MC takes was pleasantly surprising! Definitely worth the listen and I can't wait to get the next book!

Cool Gamelit
As with so much Gamelit / LitRPG its hard to find the ones that stand out.
I found this although a bit slow to start became quite interesting as a outside issue for our Denton and an internal game quest with intriguing problems kept the general interest alive until we became familiar with him and the other characters.
Suffice to say by the end i was intrigued by the deeper issues presented and a read of book 2 will be on the cards.
Narration by Verner was good but it took me quite a while to gel with his voice for Denton ,so more a 4 star for me although others may think differently.
Not to far from 4.5 stars but maybe missing a few more details overall to bring it into my must read/ listen pile.
I requested this audio and have decided to leave my thoughts on this for everyone.

Absolutely brilliant. For someone who has nearly every lit RPG book from audible AUS and has listened to them all at least twice and read the books of series that started on audible and haven’t been completed yet I think it’s a grate start to a new series.
