It's a jaw-dropping entry in the Dawn of Fire series, as the Indomitus Crusade prepares to take the fight to the heart of Abaddon's warpsworn empire.

THE STORY

The mighty fleets of the Indomitus Crusade face terrors and dangers beyond imagining. As Guilliman's crusade marches forth, bringing the Emperor's light to thousands of worlds, Fleet Secundus is headed for the darkest dark – the Eye of Terror itself.

Along with warriors of the Adepta Sororitas and the Adeptus Astartes, the Imperial Navy battle cruiser Judgement of the Void pushes deeper into contested space. But as their journey unfolds, the forces of Chaos close in, and a battle for survival is about to begin – one which has ramifications not just for Fleet Secundus, but for the future of the galaxy itself.

Good 40k Book

I was skeptical at first due to the poor reviews. But, In my opinion, this book not strongly pushing forward the plot of the dawn of fire series is not a weak point. It gave backstory to events happening within the timeline. I think this book was well written and provided insight into the imperial navy. Although if you are listening with intent in progressing the plot you can skip. Overall it was a good book.

Dawn of fire overarching plot meh

overall for the story as a whole it's kind of okay it happened whatever when more of the dawn of fire books are out it's probably one you could outright skip cuz it doesn't seem to do much other than to say oh hey this one guy without doing spoilers got a thing and none of the other parts of the book really matter at all so yeah

Spoilers!!

The entire book could have been summarized in a single paragraph in the next book saying oh hey Tensbris and Yang, got The final piece of that ancient cursed sword they've been assembling.
everything else in this book didn't matter at all only thing it does is show how easily corruption can set in on an imperial vessel which is kind of okay we know that already happens but this is just my opinion of it

Loved the sound effects.

Subtle, not overdone.Briliant. Hope it becomes a standart. The way they spoke through the Vox or the other effects, it's a simple trick, yet it immerses you into the story.

Not what I expected

I bought the title hoping for another story that moved the 40k universe forward...what I got was a depressing story about Chaos and its insidious power to corrupt. Only the epilogue had any universe progression, and the book left me angry and despondent.

Well wrought sirs!

An excellent story, one of the best I've "read" in 40k. More of of ghost story than anything. Very well written and performed!

Chris wraight please

It’s cool when space marine adventures fall apart and become dramatic tragedies - when it’s just normal people it’s a complete bummer.

Great Standalone Story But Bad For Dawn of Fire

Sea of Souls is a very good look into how an Imperial Navy ship runs, but if you are just here for Dawn of Fire proper, this book won't tide you over. Outside of a few bits, this is more Dawn of Fire adjacent than a mainline book and that is the biggest problem with the series.

nice twist

the plot twist compared to other Warhammer novels was refreshing. However, it took too long to build and ended too quick

A bit disappointing

A good look at the warp and its corruption. I think some people are overly harsh on it, but it does struggle to wrap up the end in a satisfying way. The twist is held onto a bit too long and when it comes it feels obvious.

Grim Dark

Yikes on several bikes. Definitely not a happy go lucky, this one. Feels like this series is culminating finally.
