Resumen del Editor

War rages in the Caradryad Sector. Worlds are falling to madness and rebellion, and the great war machine of the Imperium is moving to counter the threat. Amongst its agents is Inquisitor Covenant. Puritan, psyker, expert swordsman, he reserves an especial hatred for those of his order who would seek to harness the power of Ruin as a weapon.

Summoned to an inquisitorial conclave, Covenant believes he has uncovered such a misguided agent and prepares to denounce the heretic Talicto before his fellows. But when the gathering is attacked and many left dead in its wake, Covenant vows to hunt down Talicto and discover the truth behind the mysterious cult apparently at the heart of the massacre, the Unseen. In the murky plot into which he is drawn, Covenant knows only one thing for certain: trust no one.

decent story. always love Inquisition books

good story and voices are tolerable. good pacing and never shouting or being to excited for the characters. nice easy listening for a Grim future.

Masterpiece

Up front, If you are not a fan of Warhammer 40.000, I can't say if you'll enjoy this as much. Look to the Eisenhorn series for the best introduction to the 40k universe instead...

A high octane pump of intrigue, mystery and action. Contains some or the best performances I've heard. Held me in it's grip thoroughly, simply loved it !

great performance not a great story

I love inquisition books. That being said, I was a little disappointed. Covenant is not a very interesting character so far, but the story arch is interesting. It has great potential for a trilogy

not bad

It had a good story, the characters were ok though not very compelling. I'll finish the series as I already started. The narrator was outstanding as usual

Decent Story and good intro to the 40k setting

I do have to confess my favorite inquisitor stories are the Eisenhorn/Ravenor series, but this was a good listen, and I liked the characters. Would recommend it.

Not Eisenhorn-good but close enough

I liked it. Nothing beats the Eisenhorn novels but this was a very good try.

In a universe far far away …it is the dark ages.

Resurrection: The Hourusian Wars - War Hammer 40,000
by John French

WHAT IT IS:
A long time ago in a universe far far away … it is the dark ages.

This is Star Wars… but envisioned by Clive Barker, with detailed notes from H.P. Lovecraft… and ROCKIN' to HEAVY-METAL.

Mankind's empire stretches across the universe. Humans travel great distances by sailing star-ships through "warp space". Manned by psychics who can guide ships through the warp.

THE UNSPOKEN TRUTH IS:
Unfortunately, "the Warp" is not just the empty space between stars. It's another dimension. The big unspoken truth of this universe is the Warp might be hell. It's full of screaming ghosts. Human and alien dead. Some have evolved into vastly powerful demonic beings & monstrous gods. Unfortunately, by the time man-kind figures this out, it's too late. Mankind's empire is as wide as the universe, and to travel anywhere you HAVE too use the WARP.

These War Hammer 40k books are tales of the battle to save the human race. The battle has been waging for many thousands of years … and is not going well.

Like in the DARK AGES, man-kind has lost much knowledge.
Superstition rules.
Science has devolved into a religion where tech-priests prey to machine-spirits.
Gigantic, ancient battle-ships travel through the void. Many of their gothic-cathedral interiors are now dark and vacant as humanity's numbers decrease.

A DARK universe so lavish in gothic-scary detail it teeters your mind on the edge of insanity.
Mutant-monsters from the WARP threaten the human mind and soul in an epic war with no end.
Yep, an' it's not going well. How do you defeat the armies of the HELL-dimension? ...in outer-space?

What can save this very VERY V E R Y dark vision of the future and make it an enjoyable read??

Wonderfully imaginative Characters, and military sects, and religions, and weird science, and scary MONSTERS - each more fantastic than the last. Genius!

WHO WILL SAVE US:
A "Rag-tag bunch of misfits" stand against the EVIL from the WARP.
They're awkward but extremely advanced in the skills of battle.
They remind me of "Buckeroo-Banzai and his Hong Kong Cavaliers"

They are…

• Covenant - Leader. Grim martial-art warrior. Scarred, and tattooed.

• Galvious - Tech-priest adopted by Convent's crew - Cybernetic humanoid/spider being who seems morbidly depressed, yet not without an odd sense of humor.
A C3PO for this UNIVERSE OF TERROR.

• Severita - A death-dealing amazon.

• Enna - Another orphaned amazon-warrior adopted by Convent's crew.

• Joseph - Old and clam - a Priest who swings a mean war-hammer. I thought of him looking like Rob Halford: the 60-plus-year-old lead-singer for the classic heavy-metal band JUDAS PRIEST.

• Mylika - A Psyker . WITCH. Looks of a wraith, but with the loving presence of a mother.

Together they root out the demonic infiltration. Solving mysteries and fighting WARP creatures.

Great adventure in a UNIVERSE OF TERROR so dark and dangerous that to fight for survival many humans have become augmented monsters, barely recognizable as human any more.

The reader could have done a little less "acting" and more "reading" for my tastes. However, this book is genius! Pure Genius!

Would LOVE seeing this as an effects-heavy live-action action-horror-movie - with a sound track by JUDAS PRIEST!

"All witches are saints, all demons are angels."

Read the book

This is weird, but this book just didn't work for me as an audiobook. I absolutely could not get into it, and was ready for it to end. This isnt a criticism of the performance of the Reader, who did a fantastic job, and whose voices for all the characters was great. I believe this story needs to be read, not heard, to really absorb what is happening, because the audiobook keeps moving the story forward at too quick a pace.

The story itself was a little formulaic. Inquisitors are hunting down a terrible threat, but are always one step behind until the big reveal and showdown. Its been done too many times. With that said, if you are looking to get into 40K novels, this is a good starting point because it showcases how big the universe is, and how decrepit the functions of the imperium really are.
