Publisher's Summary

If you do not yet scuba dive but are thinking of learning, then this book is for you. It takes you from the germ of the idea that you might like to try scuba diving up to the point where you have done around 20 dives.

This is not your standard how-to manual. It is very different. The purpose of Scuba Fundamental is not to teach you how to dive. A dive instructor will do that. But this book will make the learning process much easier. It will help you make the right choices and avoid the pitfalls that await new and uninformed divers coming into the sport. It will also set you well on the road to becoming a capable and competent lifelong diver.

Scuba Fundamental tells you how to make sure you are prepared for a scuba diving course and what a good beginners course should entail. It tells you how to choose a good instructor, how to decide which operators to dive with after you have finished your course and what sort of dives you should be doing when you first start diving.

You will learn the many ways in which diving will change your life and also acquire some extremely valuable advice on the etiquette involved in the sport. Throughout the book you will be entertained, educated and encouraged by anecdotes from people who are now experienced divers but were once beginners too.

There is also an entire section devoted to diving safety, much of which covers vitally important aspects of scuba diving that standard training manuals don't emphasize enough or even leave out completely.

The book's message is: start scuba diving the right way and you will be relaxed and ready for the adventure. You will have more fun, make fewer mistakes and be confident in the fact that you are well informed, have made the best choices and have spent your money wisely.

A Message From The Author

The author of Scuba Fundamental, Simon Pridmore has asked me to pass on the following message. Thanks to reviews from Tom and Jared, Simon has learnt that that at some point the original audiobook file uploaded to Audible was corrupted. Chapter 9 disappeared and was replaced by a second Chapter 11. He has sent a new file to Audible with all the chapters in the correct place and has asked them to upload it to replace the corrupted file. This should mean that all future purchasers receive the audiobook in perfect shape. However, if, like Tom and Jared, you purchased a faulty copy of Scuba Fundamental, please email Simon at divebooks@simonpridmore.com and he will send you an mp3 file of the missing Chapter 9.

Listen well before your class, but...

chapter 11 was repeated, which means chapter 9 is missing, and I really wanted that chapter.

Great for those getting started in Scuba

I have my open water and nitrox certifications and am planning on going further. I initially bought the follow up to this book: Scuba Confidential. Both have been great and I would recommend them to anyone just starting out or already certified. Scuba confidential picks up right where this left off. Fundamental will bring you through your first 20 dives or so, but the next one can be of service to those even just recently certified. I’ll be listening to Scuba Confidential one more time and then perhaps go into the third volume afterward.

Chapter 11 is a complete repeat

Pay enough attention to not repeat a chapter in your book. Very disappointed in this.

Enjoyable Revision

Would you listen to Scuba Fundamental again? Why?

Yes, its basic but well presented and doesn't miss anything which is good.

What does Simon Pridmore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I believed him, his understated narration at first made me wonder how enthusiastic he was but after a chapter or so I just found it calming and assured.

Intro to Scuba

Not the most interesting of books, but a good no nonsense introduction to Scuba.

Stories were interesting, especially "this is how not to do it" ones.
