Publisher's summary

In the final chapter of the Hellequin Chronicles, secrets will be revealed, friendships tested, and destinies fulfilled.

Avalon is under siege. A shadowy cabal, headed by a mysterious figure known only as "My Liege", has launched a series of deadly attacks across the globe, catching innocent human bystanders in the crossfire.

Emerging from the debris of battle, Nate Garrett, the 1600-year-old sorcerer also called Hellequin, and his friends must stop My Liege once and for all. But powerful forces stand in their way. To save Avalon, they will need to enlist the help of Mordred, once Nate's greatest nemesis, now his most formidable ally. But Mordred is grappling with a dark prophecy that could spell Nate's doom...

The fate of the world hangs in the balance. Even if Nate can halt the war, will there be anything left worth saving?

Meh

I was a big fan of the Helloquin series till this book. I had just finished the Jim Butcher series The Dresden Files read by James Marster (i mean, come on, no comparison) and maybe it was the poorly done narration that made the story seem like the same old story recycled. Disappointed and book ends with no answers

Pissed off

Had this book been paper, it would would make wonderful kindling. Moreover, its created even more questions. The narrator just makes me angry listening to him butcher personalities. I will say, his timing has gotten better with his presentation. Had he been the first narrator, well I'd feel different. Maybe.

Too much, Too quick, No Ending

Up to this point I've really liked the Hellequin Series, even with the Narrator change last book. However, I have to say I was disappointed with this book. It seemed like this was originally supposed to be the final book (Like it's advertised) but then 3/4 of the way through McHugh decided that he needed another book to close it out and just didn't bother going back and changing the story. WAY too much is revealed WAY to quickly. All of a sudden you find answers and secrets that had no lead up and sets up the next part but there's no time to absorb the info. I don't want to give anything away but a whole new pantheon and Group of ultra powerful people are added with no warning (including an already introduced character's secret identity) and everyone just trots along like "Oh, you're an ultra powerful god like person we've never heard of and there are 6 other guys like you? Cool." I really hated the way so much was packed in with no buildup and seemingly no effort to question where all this was coming from. As I stated before, the book ends on a semi-cliff hanger. The bad guys seemed to have one, Nate is waiting on super powers and everything has gone to shit. If there isn't another book coming than this is hands down one of the worst endings to a series I've ever seen.

Ultimately, If you've been a fan of the other 6 books I would say wait until you have a free credit or it goes on sale. The only things that I really liked about the book was Simon Mattacks' narration and some character development for Mordred.

Damn

Steve knocked this one out of the park. So much is going on literally up to the last seconds of the book. I can’t wait to see what his Avalon books bring, and for Nate to come back after is year hiatus. Brilliant book. Brilliant series.

Nate is tested in this installment. He’s on cloud 9 and on deaths doorstep. This book also had a lot of Mordred in it. Love that character. This was The Empire Strikes Back for the Hellequin Chronicles.

Do mother change narrators in mid series.

Why in the world would you change narrators? Mattacks' impressions are very different, to say the least. It almost ruined it. Unfortunately, it looks like we are stuck with him. Langton was MUCH better.

Brilliant

An exciting end to an excellent series. Now I am going to start again and listen from the first in the series, to pick up on the stuff I missed before, so much happens in each book.

More please

Loved the whole series, couldn't wait for the next credit to get the next book.
The change in narrator took a little getting used to but thought they were both great in making it clear who was speaking and keeping up with all the different voices and accents all the way through the series. I enjoyed that they made me laugh out loud, I even learnt a new swear, thanks Remmy! And I could really picture what was happening. I hope there is going to be more, I want to know what happens next.

Helliquin for president.

Absolutely love all 7 books in this saga. The level of detail, action and comedy in each book is perfect in equal measures.

5 stars and more if they would let me

More than a competent narration of a fun book

If you haven't heard/read earlier books, start there. I was disappointed initially by the change of performer from earlier books, but Mattacks does a very good job too of keeping the story going. Thoroughly enjoyed. The story continues elsewhere...

So sad it's over!

I loved this series so much, this book is tagged as the final chapter, but it feels like it's just getting going! I really hope Mordred gets to carry on the story and that Nate will be part of it!
Better still, more for this chronicle please!!!

I have loved these books. Steve McHugh is an absolute genius, his writing is sublime and each character well put together. You can truly loathe some and also love others, and then we have Remy...... Thank you, for him alone thank you!!.......
Thank you Mr McHugh for the many hours of utterly wonderful storytelling . I cannot wait for the next series on Avalon and Nate’s conclusion.

A true masterpiece

Wow,wow, wow, wow what a fantastic book series, I have been enthralled, mesmerised and elated throughout the whole 7 titles.

Steve McHugh's ability to entangle myths and legends from the panthions to the dark ages into a fantastic book series is aw-inspiring.

But my question is when will we see the return of helequin and his new powers ......
