A pirate attack with only one survivor.... A conspiracy woven across the planets.... A vengeance that will not be denied.
When pirates seize the inter-planetary freighter owned by Brad Mantruso’s family, he is dumped into space. Saved from death by a passing Fleet ship, he is left with nothing but his skills, a gun, and a burning desire for vengeance.
Acquiring a ship, he reinvents himself as the mercenary Captain Brad Madrid. Before he can pursue his enemies, however, he finds himself dragged into an unexpected conflict when his ship's history draws new enemies to him.
Beset by pirates, slavers, and a woman who might be his savior—but definitely is a spy—it will take all of his skill, cunning, and new friends to claim his revenge!
This may be Glynn Stewart’s best starter yet. Terrific narrative and a fine narration. Well done!

Most enjoyable. The protagonist, Brad Madrid is a very strong character. Action packed and there are many tense moments. Well written by Glynn Stewart and Terry Mixon. Jeffrey Kafer as always performed well. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

At some point, scifi lovers will have such a large library of material to compare new books to that it's rare that you experience something truly new. In this book, you certainly won't find anything that hasn't been done before. That's not a bad thing, though. This is the work of two experience scifi writers, narrated by an equally experienced narrator. It's good, it's enjoyable, and it's fast pace enough that it ends up focusing on the story, not reiterating old concepts that you've seen a hundred times before. With the story concluding (in theory, although Mr. Stewart has posted some things on his FB page that makes you wonder) in book two, the investment here is well worth what it gives you in return.

This book is good, it starts off with the standard revenge plot (character loved one killed character goes for revenge) but branches out and make all the characters feel like real people. In no way did this book come across as a cookie cutter. I will be downloading the next book immediately.
great action filled book bit predictable at times but entertained none the less. looking forward to the next book
I read book one, and then listened to it again to refresh my memory. Its a good little book. Its not very deep. The characters, except the main, are pretty one dimensional...good, bad, indifferent. The performance was also fairly monotone, but it did fit....like a 50s crime movie. Overall, its better than the parts and even with some glaring flaws in logic and timelines, it was an enjoyable listen. You could do a lot worse with a credit.
Tons of action, great story, love the good guys winning. Ready for the next one. I love Kafer, he is awesome.
Another addictive series set in this enjoyable universe. At first it just comes across like a movie action sequence but the great plot, characters and storytelling I expect in this universe, soon shine through. While the main character is male I think the story will appeal to both male and female listeners of sci fi, which isn't always the case. I can't be unbiased on the narration because I already love Kafers' work from C.T. Phips' Supervillany series. His interpretation is a bit different from the tone of this authors other artists in the world he has created but I soon got into and found it hard to put the book down. I've listened to both books coauthored with Terry Mixon and hope the pair continue to work together if the results are this good.
thoroughly enjoyed this read. can't wait for the next one. kept me guessing and enthralled all the way
My first book by these author's, a great story managed to keep me compelled to the end.
