Publisher's Summary

Grace and Ted Chapman. Literary power couple. On the surface, they seem to have it all. Beneath, what no one sees, is Ted's rages. His mood swings. And the precarious house of cards that their lifestyle is built upon. When Ted's longtime assistant and mainstay leaves, the house of cards begins to crumble, and Grace, with dark secrets in her past, is most vulnerable.

To the rescue comes Beth, a new assistant. Someone who will help handle Ted. Someone who has the calm efficiency to weather the storms that threaten to engulf their household. Soon, though, it's clear to Grace that Beth might be too good to be true. And that this new interloper might be the biggest threat of all, one that could cost Grace her marriage, her reputation, and even her sanity.

Fabulous

I listen to many books and I am hard to satisfy, so when I find something that I can't stop listening to I have to share. I always read others reviews and I want to write one on this book. Basically, it kept me hooked wanting to find out what going to happen. Great character development and tension build up. I couldn't stop for 6 hours! If you liked Gone Girl you will like this. It was better.

Random and unrealistic

What a hideously fake and unrealistic story. Absolutely dreadful and laughable. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! So ridiculous.

Not the best from Green

Very average at best, kept thinking it would be better as it went on and it wasn't. Did finish it, but was sort of happy to move on to something else. Have read most of Green's novels, this is one of the worst.

is "Ted", her?

this felt like she was just fulfilling her publishing contract. even down to the amount of words required. i put it down a few times but eventually came back out of respect but Jane phoned it in on this book.

Amazing Twists and Turns...

I love Jane Green and have read every one of her books. This was pergolas the best. Different from any of her others and this kind of story suits her well. I couldn't stop listening to this book. I think I got through it in less then a day! I loved it!! Now if we can get her to do a sequel !!

Good premise..

The plot started out well, but the story became a little predictable, a little too tedious. I love Jane Green. Maybe this wasn't my favorite of hers, but she is one of my all time favorite storytellers. Her stories have an intimacy that makes me feel as if I am a friend sitting across from her at lunchtime, catching up.

Longest Dr. appointment ever... I do NOT recommend

This is my first time to write a review on a book that I just can NOT finish.
I gave it 2 stars instead of 1, because it started out to be an interesting story. By chapter 19 (about half way through the book), I felt like I was sitting in a very long doctor appointment. I kept trying, but by chapter 28, I threw in the towel. It was like reading a bad pharmacy text book, and I no longer cared what happened to any of the characters that were developed in the beginning.

Not the best for Jane Green

I didn't enjoy the narrator, who I know is also the author. I love her books, but both the narration and the story in this one left a lot to be desired. I almost stopped listening but it did pick up in the second half. I can't say I'd recommend this book but I do recommend many of Jane Green's other novels.
