Annoying

I am a woman in my 50s and this is my story, and I hated it! Yes, there were nuggets of wisdom and moments that I laughed out loud because I could completely relate to the hot flashes and menopause, blah blah. But for the most part, I found this story boring and annoying. The main character is so trapped by the nostalgia of her life she can’t move forward! Save your credit for something worthy

Whiny story

Whiny story, whiny premise, whiny characters- she makes menopause out to be the death of women. I’m a woman in menopause … not the case.

Sandwich

I grew up on Cape Cod and of course I wanted to read it. I identified with Rockie only I never had my own children and was never able to have children but I had 3 wonderful children. I identified with the huge change that menopause and som anger issues but for different reasons. I truly laughed and cried!

Beautiful emotional rollercoaster ride.

I laughed at the ridiculous truths that were shared at what times seemed to be a version of myself. Totally relatable humor, frustration and sadness.

Did not believe the main character

The main character did not ring true to life. Perhaps the author knows little of anxiety?

Loved it

This story touched my heart in all the right ways. I laughed, I cried, I felt understood.

Ann Patchett has me reading stories about middle aged moms and I can’t relate because I’m not a mom and I lost my mom before she was middle aged. But this is why books exist and help us relate to others. This book was absolutely wonderful. Thank you for writing it.

Beautiful and True Story Telling

The reality of Motherhood and Marriage. The story telling of the author and the narrator. The truth of love and living.

I Guess You Need to Be a Parent

This was good, but I am almost certain a lot of it was mostly wasted on me. I was told this book is hilarious - wish I could remember who told me that. It’s a warm book, but not hilarious to me. This is largely about loving one’s family, especially a person’s own children. I could appreciate that and how moving the story must be for parents, more likely those who are fairly recent empty nesters. Probably if that were me, I would have been quite moved. But I don’t have children and wasn’t motivated to do that so I might be an odd case. I will recommend this book to my friends with kids. I think they will be big fans.
