Story
Omnians, Earthers, and alliance members are fighting the Colony, the horde of sentient insectoids that threaten alliance space. The Colony has had centuries to expand through the network of domes built by the Messinants, an ancient race. The domes’ Q-gates allow the insectoids to invade planets through their inventive use of rings, which extends the power of the domes. It’s Omnian superior technology that gives a temporary advantage to the peaceful alliance members who lead the fight to retake their planets.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Publisher's Summary
Dangerous forces are at work across galactic space that the Omnians are attempting to stabilize, but their resources are severely strained.
The SADEs, self-aware digital entities, express to Alex Racine and Renée de Guirnon their desire to know the method of their creation. Alex and Renée, the Omnian co-leaders, want to obtain the knowledge for the SADEs, who are humans’ closest allies.
Alex, Renée, and Julien, a friend and a SADE, board the giant city-ship, Freedom, which sails for Méridien, the home world of the far-reaching human colonies of the Confederation. They have a long overdue appointment with House Brixton, the Méridien group responsible for creating the SADEs. However, Shannon Brixton, the House Leader, is expected to zealously guard the secrets of the SADEs’ origination.
While at Méridien, Alex receives an urgent message requesting help in alliance space, where a small group of Omnians and Earthers battle the Colony, a race of insectoids, which is subsuming planets.
To complicate matters, a rogue battleship fleet left the federacy, bypassed the human colonies, and is searching among the alliance worlds for a habitable planet. If an unoccupied world isn’t found, they’re prepared to evict the inhabitants by force.
In the wake of Alex’s exit from Omnia for alliance space, Hector is left in charge of the Omnians’ second fleet. The SADE temporarily carries the mantle of protector of human colonies and allied worlds.
For the Omnians, life and its challenges couldn’t be more precarious, or could they?

HORRIBLE NARRATION!
I like this series and was looking forward to this new book. I'm bummed now because apparently they have a new narrator who ruined the story. It starts with the "new" way of pronouncing DASATA (Alex Dischnya name) and continues with mispronounced names to the point of making me scream.
WHO CHECKS FOR ACCURATE / ADEQUATE NARRATION WHEN A BELOVED SERIES CHANGES THE NARRATOR? OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

Terrible narration. Good story.
After the first chapter I was in shock. I couldn’t tell the difference between the characters by the narrators voice. I can understand that they might be different with a new narrator but it’s so monotone to make it unbearable.
Zee’s voice sounds like the admirals and Rene and Alex for example. The story sounds so cold and not exciting anymore.
I’m returning this book. Imagining the characters voices in my head while reading it is far better now. Such a shame as this was my favorite series of audio books.

Wonderful story, Narrator didn't do her homework.
I love the Silver Ship series. Until SADES the series had a great narrator in Grover Gardner. Apparently the new narrator did not listen to any of his narrations. That would be the only explanation for the numerous, irritating mutilations of the key character's and place names. Even the one named after the famous philosopher Desecrate she pronounces 'Dez cart ezes'! Did she not listen to the books at all? Her narrating is very good. Her voice-acting, (the difference between audiobooks and computer read text) is non-existent. So bad it is difficult to determine if Alex or Rene is the one talking. Zee's Germanic accent and Miranda's sultry feme-fatalle gone forever? Very sad. Still love the series, but will have to switch to reading it.

spoiler alert
extremely disappointed in the narrator. she put in no effort in learning the pronunciation of words from the previous narrator. she tried to use different voices are characters that could not pull it off
as for the story they have nanites that can dissolve Starship but yet they can't use something to sterilize The Colony the majority of this book could have been cut and paste from previous book this book and the previous book should not have been placed in the silver ships series it only added more characters and distracts from the main character of Alex Ricci
in conclusion they should pull this book from Audible until Cleveland can redo it right

A Fun Read
I have to admit that the Silver Ship series is my favorite sci-fi series. I cannot wait for a new book to be released.
The book is well written and I am always amazed at Jucha’ s imagination. In this book we have three major story lines intertwining. Alex and the SADEs are in negotiations with the House of Brixton for the SADEs to be able to create themselves. Alex and fleet are searching for a fleet that escaped a world that had been controlled by Artifice; they are hunting for a world to move to. Jeff Cinders and the veterans, along with the SADEs, are fighting the Insect Colony trying to gain control of the Gate Domes. This only barely highlights what is going on it this story. Overall, an exciting read.
Susanna Burney does a okay job narrating the book. Burney is an actress and voice-over artist as well as an audiobook narrator. Every book in this series until this book was narrated by Grover Gardner. Please bring him back.

It's alright at the start, gets better over time.
The first couple of chapters (first 5 or 6) are basically unneeded - All you need to know is a lot of talk, Nata being a asshat and I still don't like her character, and talks happen and eventually a promise of 90-years later reveal of how SADEs are created and prepared for sentience (hint hint, it's old people).
But, instead of returning to Alliance elements, we have to go through some boring moments, orders of who is in charge and where, etc. etc. before we finally return to Jess Cinders and the gang dealing with those space centipedes as always.
Jess becomes a lot less enjoyable when he gets into contact with Alex, everyone seem to also BLAME Alex for not just rolling over and accepting Jess as ground force leader, etc.
It's a bit stupid and it's drama for the sake of drama... now if Jess had initially misunderstood something between Alex and that Luchia-commodore lady, then it'd have had made more sense.
But, nope, we get dumdum moments, sour-puss Jess, etc.
Also what in the hell is wrong with people in these books with regards to implants!? You literally have insta-connection with others, you can save and review old visual footage of what you've seen, you can do just about whatever you want in terms of internal applications, etc. etc.
He seems fine with those whatever-treatments that extrends lifespan from the Jatouche (Tellamite Treatment or whatnot), which is basically genetic manipulation), where as Nanites and Implants is controllable TECH that dun have random genetic problems that could potentially occur.
It was the same with the New Terrans earlier on in the prior books
The Narrator is functional, hence a 3/5 on Performance. Not a super fan, but she is understandable, clean-voiced and she doesn't sound overly monotone-voiced or 'bored'. There's some word-pronounciation changes, and I don't really care for them especially when there's over 10 prior books in the series to take reference from in terms of alien names, words, titles, etc.
