Talus, the system comprised of Toralians and the Sisterhood, is under siege. Massive battleships, each ferrying an envoy from a federacy race, surround the Talusian home world Toral. Two wedges, each comprised of nine federacy battleships, wait outside the system.

The sisters, whom the SADEs created during the fight to defeat Artifice, possess advanced tech. They construct warships, the vaunted Tridents, to protect their new society. However, despite the support of the enormous Toralian battleships, the nascent Talusian fleet is no match for the numerous ships that ring the planet.

The envoys’ lists of demands against the Talusians are long, and the envoys compete to be heard, complicating the negotiations. The chaotic conditions buy the Talusian president Sargut time to send an urgent plea for help. His message requests the assistance of the Omnian fleet.

The city-ship Our People and two Trident commands make preparations to sail for Talus to relieve the beleaguered Talusians. But the fleet must solve a dire local emergency before it can get underway.

Nata, a new lieutenant, makes a terrible misstep. She visits Sawa, the Dischnya home world. Her investigation results in her capture by an underground nest. Now the Omnians must recover Nata before she comes to harm.

A shocking discovery is made on Sawa, and Nata’s rescue becomes a race to save a dying Sawa nest. Omnian Dischnya take matters into their own hands, freeing the fleet to sail. Having resolved one exigent issue, the fleet arrives at Talus only to confront a much greater problem.

Enjoyable book but irritating series trends

Artifice & the Federacy leftovers and The Colony have been the big bads for many books now. I’m getting really tired of their plot line spanning so many books.
I’m also irritated at the fact that the author keeps alternating between the two. They should have just remained the 2 different series with one focusing Federacy space and the other on Alliance space. That’s what the pace of this new-ishly “combined” series has been like. You get one or the other usually alternating.
The only reason to combine the two given the lack over overlap between Federacy & Alliance space plotlines is to generate more profit from the more successful series.
Look, I enjoy the Alliance space books, but they’re usually not as intriguing as Federacy space books, and there’s usually a lot more death & tragedy. Federacy space books are a lot more upbeat and optimistic. The same reader doesn’t necessarily enjoy both of those, but if you liked either series, both of them are now stuck under the Silver Ships generic umbrella.
So lame.

Gripping

This is a great story even without Alex. The so called second team does a terrific job as arbitrator between the Federation members and Talus. The members want reparations for what Artifice did to them in the past. Jucha creates such fascinating characters. It does seem that each book brings us more exciting characters. So far, I have managed to keep track of them all. Cannot wait for the next installment.

The book is eleven hours and seven minutes. Nicole Poole does a fairly good job narrating the book. As I stated with the last book in the series, I really miss Grover Gardener.

Love the books. Dislike the narrator change.

I really like these books and I've listened from the beginning but changing narrators in book 15 and then again in book 16 was really annoying. These last two narrators have changed the pronunciation of all of the names and the voices aren't even close to what I got used to hearing. After listening to the first 14 books in a row from the same narrator, it's now annoying me when things get pronounced "wrong". Of the character voice changes the one that annoys be most is that suddenly the SADES are very mechanical sounding when they never were before. I am a big Science Fiction fan and I listen to audio books everyday on my way back and forth to work. I have dropped listening to a book series before because the narrator changed and the continuity of names and voices changed too much. It'll be sad if I end up doing this with this one because I really do enjoy the story itself.
