Acerca de esta escucha

The only book to examine the origins of Scientology's current leader, Ruthless tells the revealing story of David Miscavige's childhood and his path to the head seat of the Church of Scientology, told through the eyes of his father. Ron Miscavige's personal, heartfelt story is a riveting insider's look at life within the world of Scientology.

If you are interested in minds, cults, how people get caught up in something that demeans them, listen to this. Well and plain spoken. The reader is excellent.

David Miscavige is a tragic figure. I listened to this knowing that Ron had passed. I truly hope that he was able to reconnect with his son before he died. In case you ever see this, David. I don't know if you a true believer or if you're just in it for the money and power. But on your current coarse, when your day comes and it's your time to die you better hope Tom Cruise is still alive so there will be one person who isn't relieved to see you go.

Amazingly sad story

While sad in nature, I found this book to be easy to follow and sincere. The narrator did a fine job and the context of the story was interesting and informative.

A heartfelt book.

It seems that if Hubbard hadn't set the ball in motion and mentally ill as well as fraudulent and participated in criminal activity the end result would have never occurred. Hubbard set the stage for what followed.

I don't care for his protecting Hubbard ...

I listened to this after listening to Beyond Belief and trying to get another perspective on the church. While I think that this book does give a different perspective and discusses the marketing and audio visual aspects of life in c-org, the story is repetitive and could be about 1/4 shorter. There are moments when you return to the book after only a short break wondering if the device has not advanced, when in fact you are simply rehearing something you have already heard. The story overall is interesting based in the relationship with David Miscavige, but otherwise is very repetitive.

my favorite part about this audiobook you can feel Ron Miscavages love for his son through his writing and you can feel his pain at losing his son. the narration was great and was a wonderful listen. I've already listened twice, its a great tale and offers a bit of understanding for the leader of scientology. scientology intrest aside, he's led an incredibly interesting life.

great listen!

Ron loves his son but his son is out of control with the works of scientology. disconnection is the worst thing Anyone could ever do to families and friends and Ron is living proof

the truth

Ok to listen to. More about the author than his son. Performance engaging and the story was ok

A bit of insight into the scientoloy word

This was an extremely well written book about the "hidden" side of the Church of Scientology. A chronological account of how the bullied became the bully.

Informative

What did you like best about Ruthless? What did you like least?

It was an entertaining story to say the least and one that reaffirmed my beliefs about Scientology. Some history of the origins and insights into Hubbard were intriguing. But overall, a very long story for what is pretty much summed up in the Sunday Morning or was it 60 Minutes interview of Ronald Miscavige. If you watched that, you pretty much got the jist of this book.

Would you recommend Ruthless to your friends? Why or why not?

No. Not unless they were so anti-Scientology they couldn't get enough stories about it.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Harvey Betancourt?

Yes. I actually thought the narrator had a very good Western style storytelling voice. Easy listening to be sure. Did a wonderful job.

Could you see Ruthless being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really but these days, they make TV shows about Trump. So I could see it happening but I wouldn't watch it.

Any additional comments?

Save your money and go find the YouTube video of Ronald Miscavige. You'll get the pertinent details from that and skip all the "we drove here and ate breakfast at this diner" type stuff.
