Publisher's Summary

From the star of Bravo’s hit reality show Below Deck comes Running Against the Tide, the “Stud of the Sea”'s first-ever memoir recounting his journey from landlocked Saginaw, Michigan to the high seas, where he has spent more than 25 years as a superyacht captain.

The cast members of Below Deck are known for their catfights, scheming, personal attacks, and long-held grudges, but what keeps viewers coming back week after week is resident hero Captain Lee, the only cast member to appear in all five seasons.

But you don’t have to be one of Below Deck’s 1.5 million weekly viewers to appreciate Captain Lee’s story, which offers a glimpse behind-the-scenes at the luxury yachting industry and one of Bravo’s biggest franchises. From having to reclaim his drunk captain's lost papers in the Dominican Republic to unwittingly crewing a drug boat out of Turks and Caicos to navigating the outrageous demands of the super-rich in New York City, Captain Lee's tales from the high seas run the gamut, proving time and time again why he’s a fan favorite: He’s occasionally profane, he’s often surprising, but he’s never dull and, for the first time, he’s here to tell all.

An inside perspective

You can expect the same whit and sharp comedy from the book as received from the show Below Deck!
It also brings in the humble honesty from Captain Lee. His gruff yet calm voice makes it feel like your sitting in front of him listening to his life’s story. Great Read!

Eh, it’s just okay.

I didn’t hate the book. Just didn’t love it. Or even really like it all that much. I’m an avid watcher of Below Deck so I figured this would be an inside look of some behind the scenes. While some of Lee’s stories and anecdotes are amusing few, if any, would be classified as interesting. I’m glad I purchased the book but not sure it’s one I’d refer. Borderline boring.

Adore Captain Lee

I adore Captain Lee. He is the best and makes Below Deck a success along with Kate. The story of his life is very interesting. It had me reminiscing about places I’ve been. It also had me laughing out loud. I enjoyed the book so much that I am sharing with my husband who has a working connection to the Dry Tortugas & the fort. I also think he will enjoy Capt’s humor in his story telling.

Exactly what I hoped for.

A huge fan of Below Deck and Capt Lee I looked forward to this book!! I admire Capt Lee for his no nonsense approach to life. He says what he means and means what he says. No sugar coating with him and that is refreshing. He is the sole reason that I came back to watch Below Deck after that first season the rest of the shenanigans was icing on the came. He calls himself a man of integrity and he is 100% that. I appreciate his honesty and the way he handles things. I enjoyed going on this journey of how he came to be the "stud" that he is. It was a wonderful book and even better because the stud himself read it to me.

Set a Course for Adventure

Lee's voice lures you in, making you want to know more as the story builds like the rolling ocean tide. This is the kind of memoir I would return to again and I'm definitely on a quest to watch the TV series now as well.

Bring on part two!

I am a fan of Below Deck and I always wanted to know how Captain Lee became a Captain. He always seemed a little too aloof to me. This book gave me a new respect for Captain Lee. not only is he a bad ass captain but he is also a great story teller. This book was not boring at all. Captain Lee is a great narrator that kept me enthralled the entire time. I would love to hear more stories from his time on high steel, as a restaurateur (like myself) and as a Captain for some really wacky people. bring on part 2!

Great Book

The reading starts out a little dry at first, but the Stud of the sea loosens up quickly and truly makes it enjoyable. Honestly this is just a man telling the story of his life and it is awesome.
