A CrimeReads Most Anticipated Book of Summer 2022

"Dizzy and dazzling.” —Riley Sager, New York Times bestselling author of The House across the Lake

An ingenious new high-concept thriller from #1 internationally bestselling author Catherine Ryan Howard (56 Days and The Nothing Man).

Lights

Feeling her stardom fading, struggling soap-actress Adele Rafferty is ready to give up on her dreams when she gets a last-minute offer to play the lead in upcoming horror film Final Draft. Could this be her big break? Will she have redemption for what happened the last time she was on a film set? Adele doesn’t think twice before signing the dotted line.

Camera

Adele quickly makes her way to set, deep into the isolated and wintry woods of West Cork, Ireland, miles away from civilization and cell service.

Action

When real life on set starts to somehow mirror the sinister events portrayed in the script, Adele fears the real horror lies off the page. Isolated and unsure who in the crew she can trust, is there anywhere or any time left to run?

Good book, cool concept

I've enjoyed each of Howard's books. All of the narrators were great, especially Alana Kerr Collins. If there were just one narrator I think I would've been somewhat confused since (SPOILER) the story bounces from book to film to real life. The main character was well-developed and well-written. I kind of figured things out 3/4 of the way through, but it was still a good, solid listen/read. Looking forward to next one.

I love this author, but not her best

I found this one a bit predictable and the story line can get confusing. Good performance!

Exciting read

I’ve read everything from this author and love every single book through and through. This story seemed kind of obvious at first but then not at all! I was enthralled from the beginning- an actress, having been through a sort of trauma finds herself desperate for work and gets a last minute call to be the lead in a movie! Sounds lucky but it seems tainted from the start. The story dives right in and the twists and turns from there are so engaging! The narrator is my absolute favorite, I love that she narrates Catherine Ryan Howard’s books bc that makes them twice as good!

Good fun!

I really enjoyed this book. It is a lot of fun— the plot is totally convoluted but it was a great ride!

Chaos and Crazies!

I have loved all of Catherine Ryan Howard's books, and this one was much different than her others, but just as good! The narrators are the same as her other books, which makes it even better. A nail biting twister about an aspiring actress, making a horror movie about a book ...where the book, or the movie about the book- becomes real life. I unfortunately finished it in two days. Can't wait for the next release!

It was okay

It was just okay. It wasn't close to the her other books for me at all.

Takes a long time to start

Like many here, I'm a fan of Catherine Ryan Howard. She's probably the only author whose work I order in advance. With RUN TIME, it's hard to identify the inciting incident that kicks the plot into gear. You might not even know what the crux of the plot is until about an hour into the listening. In her other books, you know immediately what the book's about (I mean, the problems facing the characters), in the first pages. This plot never really pans out. It's frustrating. But I will buy her next book too. Go, Catherine!

Great author, great story!

I’ve been waiting for this book to come out, and I’m so glad it’s finally here! Catherine Ryan Howard as become one of my favorite authors, and this book did not disappoint. The story is unique and keeps you guessing all the way through. Really fun. My only complaint is that I finished it too quickly and now I have to wait for another to come out!
