Publisher's Summary

When a two-thousand-year-old curse is the only thing keeping you safe, you should probably just leave it alone.

Here’s the problem—the curse is now breaking itself. The sanctuary is crumbling, Pell’s anger issues come with a new destructive voice, Pie has no control over her spellings, and Tomas is trying to convince himself that, one day, Madeline is going to love being a dragon.

Add in an old friend (minus her couch and plus a big blue bus filled with orphan kids), a new version of Granite Springs where the devil lives in a bar, a hundred monsters reliving the teenage-years they never had, and a date to a prom in 1982 and we’re getting close to the chaos that’s coming.

Other worlds are calling, the new doors act like hallways, and nothing that mattered before matters now. The world is quickly changing, and when the curse finally breaks for good, will there be anything left?

Royal Beasts is the third book in the Monsters of Saint Mark's series, a rompy paranormal ancient-Roman-gods rom-com. The series must be listened to in order.

Contains a special note from the author, JA Huss (writing here under her pen name, KC Cross).

Ok!

I love JA Huss books. I really love her dark romance stuff the best, her sci Fi / fantasy ok. I really liked book 1 of this series, liked book 2 ok, this book however was my least favorite. I found myself zoning out a lot, not keeping my interest. Lots of dialogue and not as much action or drama. I always listen until the end of her books to see what she has to say. So now I get this book was about Pie and Pell but didn’t love that Tomas is left hanging and other characters were just over. She said she’s doing another series about the city but hopefully it doesn’t end the same. It’s like movies, no one really cares if you already know what happens. So, hoping she performs one of her twists and changes it all. The ending was ok but rushed, I didn’t love that after 3 books of trying to get there (Don’t want to give any spoilers) I just felt like ok, then, at the end with no emotion. But I’m a die hard Huss fan and will continue on!! Just expected more. Great concepts just didn’t come together for me. Narrators we’re really good!

This series was incredible and I’m already excited for the spin-offs Julie promised to be writing in the EOBS 😍 I love the universes she creates and the characters relationships!! I’ll be ever so patiently waiting for next summer to get more of Tomas and all our other favorite monsters!

Love these characters

I loved this series! But I have to say the ending really threw me. Absolutely unexpected and I’m not sure how I feel. I’ve marinated on it the past couple days and I’m still in disbelief.

I do hope for a spin-off of this to help me get over this confusion.

Love the characters and really enjoyed the audio version .

Surprise ending 😮

What a ride! This series was incredible from start to finish. It seemed to me like a mishmash of Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion the Witch and the wardrobe, and Dr. Who with a mythology twist.
I mentioned in my book 2 review that I thought I knew how this was going to end. We’ll, I couldn’t have been more wrong. There is a pleasant and completely unexpected twist at the end. And I’m happy to find out that Julie is writing more books in this world.

So many unanswered questions

This series was good but I don't think it should have been limited to 3 books. Or, some of the things in this book should have been discussed more in the first 2 books. This book seemed rushed and dumped full of information that seemed too much and incomplete at the same time. 14.5 hours seems like enough time but it seriously wasn't. Maybe there should have been a book 4 for Pell and Pie. I know there will be more books about the other characters but I don't know if I'm going to listen to them. Maybe Tomas, since his story was such a disappointment. In the first 2 books, it seemed like he would have more of a place in this series. However, I'm not dedicating 3 books to him so we will see. I love JA Huss so from time to time, I will listen to a KC Cross book. But I'm more of a Huss fan. I would definitely recommend this series. Maybe for a younger audience. The narration was superb.

Another brilliant listen!

I am running out of books by JA Juss/KC Cross to read so very glad to have this 3rd book in this series to listen to. Definitely my favourite author! Such clever twists and writing. And as ever, the narration of her books - here by Hathaway Lee and Jason Clarke was superb. Jason Clarke is fast becoming one of my very favourite narrators - he does male and female voices and different accents very convincingly and here his accent for Tomas is brilliant. But his deep growly voice is the best! Just have to keep relistening!
