Publisher's summary

His name is Royal, but he's no prince charming. He's not even a prince - though you could say I loved him once upon a time.

He was my older brother's best friend. Growing up, he sat at our dinner table every Sunday, teased me mercilessly, and pretended I annoyed him. When I was old enough, he took me on my first date.

Royal taught me how to drive. Escorted me to my junior prom. Gave me my first kiss...among other things. He was my first taste of toe-curling, all-consuming, can't-sleep love.

We had our whole lives ahead of us. There was never anyone else for me but him. And then he disappeared. No letter. No explanation. Not even a good-bye.

I've spent the last seven years trying in vain to forget my first love, but just when I think I've finally moved on, guess who's back in town?

Useless Suspense...

Urgh.. there is nothing as annoying as spending 7hrs being tormented by an author over some secret that could make or break a relationship. I hate when the author gears up for the big reveal only to pull back because someone knocked on the door or something else happened to postpone the reveal. If this happened once or twice, I probably would be ok but at every turn .. really?

The heroine in this story came across as a doormat. Sorry, but if your ex fiancé left you and you have no feelings for him would you really stick by his side because he ends up in a coma? Oh lets not forget your first love who left you so broken you ended up in the hospital is back with a huge secret that he won’t tell you until he is ready. Add on that your family is quick to blame you for events because you ex fiancé said so.

Basically, we have a Hero who is not so charming. A heroine who is a doormat. Multiple family dynamics that are not supportive or even remotely positive. An author who draws out suspense for the heck of it. The only good thing about this listen was the narration. Don’t waste your credit or time on this one.

Engaging, Suspenseful, But A Tad Predictable!

I enjoyed listening to Royal, and while it was predictable, both the story and narration were engaging, and held my attention.

Told for dual POV's Demi and Royal have know each other since they were young kids. Royal came from a dysfunctional home and was placed in foster care where he was fostered by Demi's family. As they matured from teenagers to young adults, they fell in love, and planned a future together. Then one night without warning Royal vanishes. Demi's father knew what happened to Royal, but refused to tell Demi why Royal left without even saying goodbye. Flash forward seven years, Demi is now engaged to one of the towns most influential men, and Royal has been secretly watching over Demi for years. When Demi's fiancé is in an accident, she finds her life in turmoil, and Royal comes to support Demi. Demi's hesitate to let Royal back in her life, and wants answers on why he left, but before Royal will discuss it, he wants Demi to get to know and trust him again, because what he needs to share is bad.

The narration was great. CJ Bloom and Eric London both delivered a fantastic performance, and made it easy to distinguish between the different characters.

Royal was a good story, and I'm giving it an overall rating of 4 stars. Had the plot, characters and sex scenes been a little more intense, I would have given the story five stars. The story's worth a credit; however, I love using my Kindle Unlimited membership and finding awesome Whispersync deals, and Royal was another one of those awesome finds!

Train Wreck!

The heroine was a doormat to everybody. Who let's her non mother-in-law quit her job for her, so that she can take care of her cheating, thieving ex. Then lets her family dog her out based on the demented ex's account of the situation & doesn't give them hell. Royal's life was a nightmare & Demi's lawyer father could have helped him-he didn't & let Demi think that Royal just ran out on her. Demi had a CRAPPY family. This was 7+ hours of STUPID! Any woman who takes this treatment from anybody is an idiot.

Hard to sit through

The male narrator was an abomination. They should have thought this through before having him do a horrible job at impersonating a female voice (Demi's voice). I felt like I was listening to an SNL skit. It's pretty distracting and it was hard to get into the storyline.

Good story, drags out.

I enjoyed the story, but it took way too long to get where it was going.

A Royal Mess

Not often do I come across a story that is agonizing to finish,but...unfortunately this one was.Over all the story was all right, might've been better to have read the book instead of listening to it.Eric London(the male narrator)was awful in doing some of the female characters, some sounded like a drag queen with a bad cold...CJ wasn't too much better since she told the story to you like you were an elementary school kid sitting on the floor.I don't understand how the"police"back in the day allowed a 40 year old man to keep a 15 year old girl who wasn't related to him or his foster child, how did that get overlooked?I recommend reading the story,it might be better.

Addictive

I binged on this book!
Once I started listening, all I wanted to do was finish it! Angst and heartbreak at its finest!!

I'm so glad I picked up this audiobook because Winter Renshaw has got a new fan! I found a new author to stalk! Ha! Score!

Fantastic storyline! Seriously. I found myself HATING some of the characters which was the author's goal, of course, and pacing around needing to know what would happen next. I despised Brooks and his mother--OMG. They made my blood BOIL.

Royal was DE-LI-CIOUS. Perfect book boyfriend!! My heart ached for him in so many instances that I lost count. But seeing him go after Demi and not letting her slip his fingertips again was swoon-worthy.

Demi was an amazing female lead character. While in the beginning she made me antsy when she would not stand up for herself, she definitely made up for it towards the second half of the book.

Now, onto the audio part of this book.
I'm happy to say that the narration was great too! There were times where CJ Bloom's portrayal of certain male characters threw me off a bit, but overall, her and Eric London did an phenomenal job in bringing the characters to life.

All in all, this audiobook is a MUST! FIVE STARS!

Annoying storyline & wimpy, spineless heroine/hero

This story started out with so much potential that when it started circling the drain I kept reading, completely in denial that it was going to be that disappointing. Finally had to come to grips with the fact that, yes, it was going to be that bad. *spoilers* Let's put aside the fact that the Hero bailed early in the book leaving the heroine broken hearted. That's typical. I was looking forward to his redemption in the form of his triumphant return and wooing her to win her heart back by sweeping her off her feet. Sadly, after listening to SEVERAL chapters of the heroine's spineless whining and allowing herself to be railroaded, pushed around, and taken advantage of, I was looking forward to her giving her cheating, finance, who took out over 10 credit cards in HER name and running up the tab to the tune of TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars, a solid piece of her mind before walking out on him to the hero's waiting arms and obtaining the services of a good attorney (possibly her brother since he is one) to take him to court or get him arrested for identity theft at the very least. But no, instead the creep ends up in the hospital after wrecking his expensive car after dumping her to go be with his mistress. To make matters worse, his manipulative mothe called the heroine's boss to tell her the heroine was quitting her job so she could play full time nurse to the jerk (whose mistress was hanging around the hospital the entire time) round the clock. But when the bum finally comes out of an induced coma claiming he couldn't remember anything she caves and stays by his side until he's "better". I was so disgusted with the story by this time I just stopped listening. At this point NOTHING could save this train wreck of a plot. UGH!
