Action, romance and mystery all in one

It was a very good read. Liked the hero's character though an unlikely one for a romance book. KB did a fabulous job showing how he became a respectable man and made it very believable. Tough job well done. The villain's character was a bit predictable as to whom it was but don't let that deter you. Still a lovely romance.

Love it.

Loved the hero the dark dangerous type but with sadly believable childhoods. I loved how his character developed and once again love conquers all. I have read the book twice. This series is excellent.

Went a little slow in places but I came to realize that you really needed all those reflective moments to make the characters believable. The authors writing is simply incredible.

This Story has so much to recommend it. Romance suspense murder and a happy ending. It was well worth the credit.

This was such a ride

Wow, I wouldn't have thought that I would find an assassin so sexy but Christopher Argent got to me. I liked this story and it was told so well. I felt the coldness from the stony prison Argent grew up in and the hard , sad despair of his heart. Also, I loved how Millie constantly challenged him in heart and mind and Jacob stirred him to kindness. Even tho, for me, I was able to figure out the mystery and wondered why the characters couldn't, it didn't obstruct my pleasure in reading this story. Or rather listening to this story. Derek Perkins has grown on me. At first I didn't care for his female voices, but this is my third book with him narrating and I have to say while I still don't love his female voices so much, he does every thing so well and his Argent interpretation was stunning. I look forward to more collaborations between this author and narrator.

Love Kerrigan Byrne, but…

It took me 3 weeks to finish this.

Kerrigan Byrne is a great writer. Her characters are complex and well developed. Her plots are well thought out and the dialogue is amazing. (See example below).
That said, this book was a little too intense for me. I gave it five stars because the writing, character development, and plot deserve that, but it was dark. (I preferred the previous book The Highwayman which was also dark, but it had a little more balance.)
I had to pause at the 80% mark in The Hunter because it was clear there was going to be more violence/cruelty and I found myself dreading it. I took a break by listening to a couple Grace Burrowes books and the latest Charlotte Holmes by Sherry Thomas (all 5 stars btw), and I was ready to return to find out how Millie and Christopher Argent‘s romance worked out.
And it did… spectacularly.
[By the way, it was great to see Doran Blackwell and Farah from The Highwayman again.]
Here’s an example of the dialogue that compelled me to give this book 5 stars:

“Dorian stood as well placing both fists on the desk, “Do you presume to issue commands to me?“
Argent pushed off the desk with a guttural sound….“You may rule the underworld, Blackwell, but you were never my king. I have worked, suffered, fought and killed beside you. I kept your secrets and I came when you called me to your side but you never owned me. So when I say to pull the fucking contract, YOU DO IT. Because Millie Lacore is mine.. She’s under my protection, and may God have mercy on the man who gets in my way.”

Definitely 5 stars!

K. Byrne is my new favorite author. D. Perkins does a great job narrating, as well. Prepare to fall in love with this love story...
