Publisher's Summary

Now a USA Today and Amazon Charts best seller!

“A story both powerful and enchanting: a don’t-miss novel in the greatest southern traditions of storytelling.” (Patti Callahan Henry, New York Times best-selling author)

When her grandmother’s will wrenches Sara back home, she learns more about Margaret Van Buren in the wake of her death than she ever knew in life.

After her last remaining family member dies, Sara Jenkins goes home to The Hideaway, her grandmother Mags’s ramshackle B&B in Sweet Bay, Alabama. She intends to quickly tie up loose ends then return to her busy life and thriving antique shop in New Orleans. Instead, she learns Mags has willed The Hideaway to her and charged her with renovating it - no small task considering her grandmother’s best friends, a motley crew of senior citizens, still live there.

Rather than hurrying back to New Orleans, Sara stays in Sweet Bay and begins the biggest house-rehabbing project of her career. Amid drywall dust, old memories, and a charming contractor, she discovers that slipping back into life at The Hideaway is easier than she expected.

Then she discovers a box Mags left in the attic with clues to a life Sara never imagined for her grandmother. With help from Mags’s friends, Sara begins to piece together the mysterious life of bravery, passion, and choices that changed her grandmother’s destiny in both marvelous and devastating ways.

When an opportunistic land developer threatens to seize The Hideaway, Sara is forced to make a choice - stay in Sweet Bay and fight for the house and the people she’s grown to love or leave again and return to her successful but solitary life in New Orleans.

What a wonderful story

What a wonderful story of love lost and family found. Young Sara couldn’t see past her grandmother’s quirky ways. Just goes to show you can’t judge a book by its cover.

Shallow read

Predictable, boring and I believe this is pretty much the same plot as three other books I've read.

What a lovely story

This book was so detailed in description I could almost feel the once familiar warmth and humidity of the south. The reader did a wonderful job with the Drawl of the south through each of the lovely characters, telling the story of a strong woman finding her way, friendships and of course love found and lost.

Love, Love

I love the book!! I love the story, love the READER she has a lovely voice and great rhythm it’s a wonderful love story well told not porn and I enjoy hearing it over and over. It relaxes me and always bring happy dreams. I know this may sound old fashion but the story leaves enough out to fill with my own imagination. The writer did a good job, I won’t be turning this book back in. It’s a keeper. I have purchased another of her stories and will be reading it soon. I really recommended it highly to old ladies like me (60) and teenagers. It’s a book I’d recommend to a granddaughter. It has a happy ending even if it starts out with the death of loved ones.
