Publisher's summary

Listeners rabid for the sweet historical romances of Tracie Peterson and Tamara Alexander will flock to best-selling author Kim Vogel Sawyer's prairie-set heartwarmer of high society cast-off and the western town that welcomes her.

Abigail Brantley grew up in affluence and knows exactly how to behave in high society. But when she is cast from the social registers due to her father's illegal dealings, she finds herself forced into a role she never imagined: tutoring rough Kansas ranchers in the subjects of manners and morals so they can "marry up" with their mail-order brides. Mack Cleveland, whose father was swindled by a mail-order bride, wants no part of the scheme to bring Eastern women to Spiveyville, Kansas, and he's put off by the snooty airs and fastidious behavior of the "little city gal" in their midst. But as time goes by, his heart goes out to the teacher who tries so diligently to smooth the rough edges from the down-to-earth men. How can he teach her that perfection won't bring happiness?

Boring

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I've loved Kim's books in the past. This one was so slow and I found myself halfway through wishing it would be over already. Since I was already halfway through I was determined to finish it. The characters were one dimensional and not believable. They were too perfect and everything tied of a little too neatly. There was zero romance between the hero and heroine. Ughhh.... I wish I would have just stopped. It was time wasted.

What could Kim Vogel Sawyer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Made the characters more believable. They were SO cheesy.

What didn’t you like about Pilar Witherspoon’s performance?

The characters were not represented well.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I guess it encouraged you to look to the heart of people and not just the rough exterior? It really was not good.

Excellent Use of Scripture

Cute characters and great plot. A bit difficult to believe near the end but still delightful. The narrator does an exceptional job with so many characters and doesn’t make them sound like screaming banshees. Sawyer uses scripture in a natural way that doesn’t interfere with the story. I look forward to more from this team.

so so

Not my favorite story, but ok. The seemingly never ending snooty voice and attitude of the main character was annoying chapter after chapter.

Delightful!

I so enjoyed this story! A little more lighthearted and a very different twist with mail order brides. I hope Kim does more of these It showed how God worked in so many ways and how things work out with his guidance! Of course I adore Pilar! One of my favorite narrators !!

slow

I usually love her books and can't stop listening to them but I was disappointed in this book. It was very slow from the beginning to the end.

Awful reader

The performance was difficult to listen to. It was as if the performer wanted to ‘talk down’ to audience. Not a likable performance and it didn’t do justice to the story.
