Publisher's Summary

Once a broken girl known as Sorrow, Holly Chang now prowls the shadowy gray underground of the city for the angels. But it's not her winged allies who make her a wanted woman - it's the unknown power coursing through her veins. Brutalized by an insane archangel, she was left with the bloodlust of a vampire, the ability to mesmerize her prey, and a poisonous bite.

Now, someone has put a bounty on her head....

Venom is one of the Seven, Archangel Raphael's private guard, and he's as infuriating as he is seductive. A centuries-old vampire, his fangs dispense a poison deadlier than Holly's. But even if Venom can protect Holly from those hunting her, he might not be able to save himself-because the strange, violent power inside Holly is awakening....

No one is safe.

Venom sounds like he's got throat cancer

I've been faithfully reading and rereading every Guild Hunter book from the first to the last character and have the Audible version for each of them. Unfortunately, Justine Eyre made a very unfortunate decision about Venom's voice: The smooth, elegant character sounds like his throat is ruined, all scratchy and rough, not seductive and smooth as described in the books of the series. I'm not even complaining that he's got not even a hint of the melodic Indian speech pattern--but the voice turns me off so badly that I have limited myself to reading the book instead of the "total immersion" of reading and listening . My ire about his voice distracts me enough to impact the enjoyment of the story which is unfortunate.

Can’t get through this

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I can’t understand the high ratings. The narration is so bad I can’t get through the second chapter. I love the guild Gunter books but Justine Eyre ruins them for me. The main characters all sound like they are in pain and the voice she used for Venom was just plain ridiculous. I couldn’t even get into the story because all I thought about was how poorly it was being narrated. I’m sure I’ll eventually read the book but I wish I wouldn’t have waisted my credit on this. I never liked her narration on the other books either, but I could at least get through it. I couldn’t do it with this one. I wish Nalini Singh would pick a better narrator. The narrator makes the story. This one ruined it. I’m giving the book 3 stars even though I haven’t read it yet because I m sure it’s good. Nalini Singh is a great author and never fails to disappoint.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Never made it that far

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Made me not want to even read the book

Worth the credit

I love the Guild hunter series. I had listened to the previous books again while waiting for the release of this book. Perhaps that was a mistake. The first quarter of this book seemed to follow a formula which had disappointed me. It turned out that the main story was not really about the bounty that was on Holly/Sorrow's head but rather on Uram's taint. That made the book very interesting as it had some unexpected twists and turns in the story. I enjoyed the book. I did not like the voice the narrator used for Venom. It sounded liked a choked old man not a sexy viper. I ignored it and found the rest of the narration was excellent.

Wanted more from Venom’s story

A good listen but not the author’s best work, the first chapters I almost dozed off.

Phenomenal

Nalini Singh is an amazing writer, I have not listened to or read a book from her that was not done well. Even her early works show her attention to detail. I had been anticipating this story for some time and she has not only delivered but surprised me, surpassed my expectations and blew me away. You should only read this installation if you have read the other books in this series, just FYI, but if you do decide to start; then prepare for a long night of binge reading. Enjoy!

Love this Series

This book was impossible to stop listening to, like all of the previous books in the series. It is easy to get lost in the world of the Angles while listening to this book. This book is a must have in your library!! Audible 20

Amazing Series

I always knew that Venom & Holly would end up together!! If they hadn't I would have been very disappointed. This installment is very story driven, which is a little different then the rest of the series. While there is great chemistry between Venom and Holly the romance aspect doesn't come until pretty late in the story. It was a natural development for them. The snarky banter and quips from the beginning turned gradually into more.
