Story
An inn is a place to rest, a place to talk and share stories, a place to find adventure, or a starting ground for quests and legends. It is in this world, at least. To Erin Solstice, an inn seems like a medieval relic from the past. But here she is, running from Goblins and trying to survive in a world full of monsters and magic. She’d be more excited about all of this if everything wasn’t trying to kill her. But an inn is what she’s found, and so that’s what she becomes; an innkeeper, who serves drinks to heroes and monsters. Mostly monsters. But it’s a living, right?

All of this was because of the dragon stone necklace I scavenged from that dead mage. I knew it was magic when I saw it. Well, it was and it wasn’t. Dragon stone, they call it, but what it actually is, is a dragon’s egg. When I touched it, I felt the need to put it around my neck for safekeeping. When I did, the necklace embedded itself inside my skin, making me the new dragon’s envoy. It has since been my duty to protect the egg until she’s ready to hatch. How do I know the egg is a she? Easy, she talks to me and is helping me to bring out my natural magic talents.

Publisher's summary
The #1 Bestseller!
From #1 Bestselling author Morgan Rice comes a sweeping new epic fantasy series: Rise of the Dragons (Kings and Sorcerers—Book 1).
Kyra, 15, dreams of becoming a famed warrior, like her father, even though she is the only girl in a fort of boys. As she struggles to understand her special skills, her mysterious inner power, she realizes she is different than the others. But a secret is being kept from her about her birth and the prophecy surrounding her, leaving her to wonder who she really is.
When Kyra comes of age and the local lord comes to take her away, her father wants to wed her off to save her. Kyra, though, refuses, and she journeys out on her own, into a dangerous wood, where she encounters a wounded dragon—and ignites a series of events that will change the kingdom forever.
15 year old Alec, meanwhile, sacrifices for his brother, taking his place in the draft, and is carted off to The Flames, a wall of flames a hundred feet high that wards off the army of Trolls to the east. On the far side of the kingdom, Merk, a mercenary striving to leave behind his dark past, quests through the wood to become a Watcher of the Towers and help guard the Sword of Fire, the magical source of the kingdom's power. But the Trolls want the Sword, too—and they prepare for a massive invasion that could destroy the kingdoms forever.
With its strong atmosphere and complex characters, Rise of the Dragons is a sweeping saga of knights and warriors, of kings and lords, of honor and valor, of magic, destiny, monsters and dragons. It is a story of love and broken hearts, of deception, of ambition and betrayal. It is fantasy at its finest, inviting us into a world that will live with us forever, one that will appeal to all ages and genders.

An Amazing Surprise
I wasn't expecting much of this book, but then the plot, the characters and magic, it all surprise me. We still have many many questions to be answered on the next books of the series but that's okay. Morgan Rice make you sympathize easily with her characters and her plot pull you in. There's not a single boring part in this book and... I'm eager for the next one :)

Excellent!
This is an excellent sword and sorcery tale. I was fully engaged from the start and I can't wait for the next in the series. I hope that's not to far off. I love Morgan Rice's Sorcerers Ring series too, so I'm not suprised that this would be just as great as those books. Wayne Farrell is an excellent narrator and a perfect fit for this story. i highly recommend this one.

Wait for second title.
Love the book, and it should be in every fantasy reader/listeners library. But as it sits it leaves to much to a second book. It feels like this is the first part to a much longer book, not series. So for those that don't like waiting for books to come, I would recommend putting this on a your wishlist and calendar to look at when the second book comes out.

Once started unable to stop listening.
I've listened to more than several fantasy scribes on Audible but this one caught my imagination with both hands. The characters , the dragon
( I love dragons) all seemed to pull you into their space and time.
I'm not a newbie at science fiction and fantasy (I'm 62) but to be able to sit and listen to a quality story and enjoy the narration by a voice that in some episodes has a Burton like sound I'm finding it very difficult to turn it off and sleep. Looking forward to the next book which I've already purchased . If possible I would give a rating of 7 stars. I'm loving it.

Starts off well, but then falls into simplisticity
I enjoyed the beginning, I thought the premise and characters were nicely set up. However, the story increasingly makes use of clichés and unbelievable subplots at the expense of sufficient complexity. By the time the girl meets Theos, I felt like switching off. I have made it to the end but am unlikely to look at the next book in the trilogy.

Ok but could be better
The basic plot of the book is good I generally enjoyed listening particularly through the early chapters. However, some of the the events lack any internal logic (I know this is fantasy but there should still be some sense behind the things people do) and I found this a irritating after a while.
There was also something a little irritating about the narration- but more as a matter of personal taste than any real flaw.

Rise of the Dragons-loved it!
There are times when a book just grabs you by surprise. I was aware of Morgan Rice, but had never read any of his books, sticking with the Syfy and Fantasy women authors for many years.
I can honestly say this is the first book that I have finished in days, not months. Having suffered from some major health issues, including genetic vision lost, audible has opened up a new world for me, and yes I am one of those "oldies".
The story grabbed me from the beginning, and I must admit I did like Wayne Farrell's ability to give life to the characters.
Just wish the 'bundle' books will be made available for this series very soon.

Story
Once our world was full of dragons who lived in harmony with humans. Dragons counseled kings and queens. They fought in human battles. And they gave humans the most precious gift of all: magic. But after a group of rogue dragons, the Raptors, tried to take over Earth, all dragons were banished to another realm. Most humans forgot about the dragons, claiming they never existed. Eleven-year-old Sirin knows the truth - she grew up with stories passed down through the generations. However, when her mother falls ill, even Sirin has trouble believing in magic...until she sees a dragon.
