Publisher's summary

With Pap hauled off to the state penitentiary, Bettina finally feels safe. Living with Nanny Fay Tucker, working as a packhorse librarian, and being courted by Shay Leeson is a life beyond anything she'd imagined. And it's only going to get better. Because soon she'll be an honorary auntie to her best friend Addie's baby, and--for sure not much longer--she'll exchange vows with Shay and become his wife. Things in Boone's Hollow couldn't be rosier...until she gets word that the governor suspended Pap's sentence and he'll be coming back sooner than she expected.

Shay wants to marry her real quick and take her out of Boone's Hollow. But how can she go when Nanny Fay needs her and Addie's baby isn't here yet? Pap's return creates a storm in her relationship with Shay. And then another storm--one brewing way overseas--stirs trouble all over Black Mountain.

Will Bettina's world fall apart again? Or will the lessons she's learned from Nanny Fay about holding tight to the One who can calm any storm take her to a place of peace?

Enjoyed story and character development.

Will not choose any more books narrated by virtual voice. Words mispronounced (not referring to dialect), Minimal inflection.

Not a fan of virtual voice!

I loved the story! It was excellent-fascinating, heart warming and I really liked the characters! I have to say, though, that I hope you don’t continue to do virtual voice. It was really, really disconcerting and I won’t listen to anymore books that are narrated in that way.

Great Story - but the "Virtual Voice" Narration!

The "Virtual Voice" is just bad. Common words mispronounced (library should be a no-brainer), inflections, emotion - gone. I wish they'd just paid a narrator the way they have on Kim Vogel Sawyer's other books.

wonderful story bad narration

Hated the virtual voice. Pronunciation was horrible and cardamom was off. I will do my best to always listen to a real person!! Please pay actual people to read the stories.

Loved the continuation of Boone Hollow, but…

Loved the continuation of the story but hated the AI story voice!! Should have stuck with the beautiful voice of Kate Forbes!!!

Good story but terrible narration

Overall, the story itself was great, however, the narration was so distracting it took me about a week to finish the book. I usually finish a book within a day or at most, two. I will not purchase or listen to another with virtual voice narration. The virtual voice narration is unable to pronounce many words or accents correctly and there is no emotion portrayed.

I liked the story and always love to hear what ultimately happens to the characters. It was well written. I hope the author considers getting this narrated by an actual person.

Great Story In Spite of the Robot

I love Kim Vogel Sawyer’s writing! I have never been disappointed in her stories and this one is no exception. However, the AI voice took away much of the charm of Boone’s Hollow. The mountain dialect fell flat without the proper accents, cadence, and inflection, and made the language used by the characters sound ridiculous. Due to macular degeneration I prefer to listen to the books I “read.” I am glad that I persevered through the AI reading of the story of Bettina and Shay, but I feel like I missed out on a lot of the depth of their personalities and emotions. There is no differentiation between characters. None of the nuances are there that endear the characters to the reader. I know that AI is an economical alternative for authors and publishers, and likely the wave of the future in audiobooks, but this “ reader” is not likely to purchase an audiobook read by a narrator incapable of presenting emotional depth in the future. I highly recommend reading the hard copy of this book.

Voice was horrible. I couldn’t keep listening; and I LOVE KVS!

I’d be glad to listen with a real person reading. I loved the 1st book in the series.
