Join the Space Corps. Journey to the stars. Meet aliens—and then vaporize them.

A news journalist arrested for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Liv Reyes now serves as a war correspondent in a war where anyone can be drafted and everyone is expendable.

It's a war we're losing. Badly.

Outmatched, outsmarted, and outmaneuvered—humanity is running out of options when it comes to the Raptors. They destroy anything and anyone we send their way.

Our last line of defense never even made it through basic training.

Liv catches a ride on a transport filled with five hundred soldiers in cryosleep, but Raptor space is dangerous. Half of all ships deployed are destroyed before ever reaching the front lines.

Relentlessly pursued by the vicious alien enemy, Liv arrives at the aftermath of a brutal space battle and unearths a story that is the key to saving humanity from the Raptors once and for all.

But first... she must survive the trip...

Join the fight for humanity in the start of this new alien invasion military sci-fi series by Rachel Aukes, bestselling author of Flight of the Javelin and Space Troopers. The enemy is vicious. Hope seems lost. But a few brave heroes can turn the tide. Humanity will prevail!

Ohhhh this book could've been named A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the War, only it wasn't funny at all. It was a hard hitting Scifi military action drama where the good guys didn't necessarily get away unscathed. Liv Reyes is basically shanghaied into the war where she finds herself in a ship and on her way to one of Jupiter's moons. In order to join the troops and fight Raptors. Only the fighting started before they got there!!! Grab the book to find out how everything shakes out...

A good fast paced story. If you like the show Firefly you will probably enjoy this too.

I really felt for the reporter and how she got drafted and censored at the same time into a losing war. I loved that she became more than just a propaganda machine and helped the crew when things got rough.

been waiting for her new books. This did not disappoint. I am getting tired of all of the same style military, sci-fi and space opera.
This time, Rachel wrote this sci-fi military book from a personal and command standpoint, and did it very effectively and emotionally captivating. It was very enjoyable to listen to, and I’m looking forward to getting the next one today.
I wasn’t sure about the narrator at first as her voice was a little shrill for lack of better words. however, the narrator did a fantastic job and I got used to her primary voice, and she is very talented at doing all of the voices and did a great job.
Good job to both of them.

Outstanding yet different

it is a very interesting story, with believable, and mostly likeable characters. I will confess I had expected there to be more military combat, but was extremely pleasantly surprised, but where the story goes. I will be starting the second book right away.
