Resumen del Editor

Her family, gone, destroyed from within
Her kingdom, doomed, tainted by blood
Unless a scion rises to become something… more

In a single ruthless blow, Commander Lorraine Adamant’s favorite uncle murders everyone ahead of him in the succession for the Star Kingdom of Adamant. Only luck and the paranoia of her bodyguard, Vigo Jarret, saves Lorraine’s life.

On the run in a single starship Lorraine should never have commanded, with a crew she can not trust, she swiftly learns her uncle’s hounds are hot on her heels. She must gather every skill, every trick, she has ever learned if she is to survive—and pray the uncle who taught her those tricks is a step behind.

Because one thing is certain: Lorraine Adamant will save her Kingdom—or die.

Gripping and enjoyable

A break from the larger fleet actions of his other works. This was fun and exciting

it is the arthur doing what he does best. Space Opera...

He is not David Weber or John Ringo, but he is definitely in the 99th percentile. I have over 1300 books on here, and Mr. Stewart is always an automatic buy. if you have not heard any of his books yet then check out Star Ships Mage, Scattered Stars, Castle Federation, or Dutchy of Terra. my spelling might be off....

This isn't space opera. It's a boring mystery.

I bought this book because I'm a huge Glynn Stewart fan. The Star Federation and Duchy of Terra series are awesome. One of the reasons they're awesome is that while the author introduces us to a couple of characters at the beginnings of the books, they immediately engage in dialog with each other and then with other characters and within 5 minutes the action is well underway. The reader learns about the world they're in and the situations they face through these interactions, not from the author telling the reader everything.

So I'm hugely disappointed in this book. So much so that I couldn't finish it (I lasted for 6+ hours before giving up.) It's about 80% of the author explaining (telling) things to the reader, a little dialog between characters (much of it repetitive), very little action, and lots of politics. As a result, I'm not invested in the characters and I don't care what happens to them.

An aside: This is a mystery, not a quest like the books I referenced earlier. That may be another problem.

The reader is just that, a reader. She isn't acting the parts. I can't tell one character's voice from another. However, given what there is to work with, I'm not sure anyone else could have done better.

I'd give this one a pass if I were you. And if you haven't read the series I mentioned, buy one of them!
