Whoops - that's going to be hard to explain. And it’s not as though they can just grab the nearest human and make him the new duke. Or can they? “You are the savior of mankind” are the last words I ever expected to hear while nibbling on fries. The thing is, I’m not mankind saving material. I don’t even have magic (and just found out it exists). I’m the most boring, normal(ish) human ever. Suddenly, I’m being tossed right into the middle of a fight that started years before I was even born, and then I get partnered up with Alastair, a quirky magical Guardian. He is rather attractive and sweet when he’s not into the whole “woe is me, I can’t let myself fall in love with you” nonsense.

Though I was born with the ability to see the dead, I struggled with it until my brother was killed and his ghost was left behind. Now, I’m determined to figure out who is responsible for his death…the problem is that Detective Maddox Booker, the one working the case, is a grumpy and stubborn man who wants nothing to do with me and definitely doesn’t believe in ghosts. It doesn’t help that I keep finding myself looking ridiculous in front of the detective, thanks to interfering ghosts who enjoy laughing at my expense.

My whole life, I’ve been taught to despise shifters. So when I’m hired to track two escaped convicts, I’m suddenly thrust into the world I hate - or thought I did. Yet I’m inexplicably drawn to the alpha of the pack, whose land the convicts may be hiding on. He’s different than any shifter I've ever met - laidback and quick to laugh, caring, and protective. As secrets are revealed, I start to wonder if everything I’ve been raised to believe was a lie, though it may not matter, because it seems like someone wants us dead.

Smart men never dabble with demons. I never claimed to be smart, but at least, I’m powerful enough to control them. When I bound Havoc to me nearly 300 years ago, I never realized how difficult he’d make my life, although “accidentally” lighting him on fire every now and then does bring a smile to my face. Havoc is handsome, mysterious, and somehow, my closest companion, even if we don’t always get along.

Geralt of Rivia is a witcher. A cunning sorcerer. A merciless assassin. And a cold-blooded killer. His sole purpose: to destroy the monsters that plague the world. But not everything monstrous-looking is evil, and not everything fair is good...and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth.

Publisher's Summary
Imprisoned pickpocket Loth isn't sure why a bunch of idiots just broke into his cell claiming they’re here to rescue the lost prince of Aguillon, and he doesn’t really care. They’re looking for a redheaded prince, and he’s more than happy to play along if it means freedom. Then, his cranky cellmate Grub complicates things by claiming to be the prince as well.
Now, they’re fleeing across the country, and Loth’s stuck sharing a horse and a bedroll with Grub while imitating royalty, eating eel porridge, and dodging swamp monsters and bandits.
Along the way, Loth discovers that there’s more to Grub than meets the eye. Under the dirt and bad attitude, Grub’s not completely awful. He might even be attractive. In fact, Loth has a terrible suspicion that he’s developing feelings, and he’s not sure what to do about that. He’d probably have more luck figuring it out if people would just stop trying to kill them.
At least they’ve got a dragon, right?

Wonderfully Hilarious!
Nick Russo did a great job bringing my favorite Aguillon gang to life :) Two princes, an orc, a dwarf, a dragon, an idiot, and a collectivist anarchist elf set off on an adventure in this amazing series! Lisa Henry and Sarah Honey wrote a fabulous series in a fantastic world of kingdoms, evil Lords, swamp monsters, and pretenders to the throne. Loth, Grub/Quinn, Ada, Dave, Calarian, Pie, and even (ugh) Scott are a great band of adventurers who are on a mission to figure out who the mysterious Ser Factor is and why he wants the Lost Prince of Aguillon. Amazing and wonderful start to an awesome series :)

Fun and entertaining
This was a very fun and entertaining story to listen to. It's an adult fairy tale involving a rescued prince and a pauper posing as a prince, hi jinx and romance ensues. The characters are interesting, there's a lot of banter and adventure, with a bit of not very explicit sex thrown in.
I will keep following this series, hope the sequels come out in audio soon.

Immature
This was honestly a struggle to finish. The humor is repetitive and very immature, and there's only one or two characters who are likeable, most of them are just annoying for comedic purposes. The plot has a lot of holes and the ending feels forced and makes no sense. If you removed all of the sexual content, you could probably rebrand this is a children's book.

Delightful
Red Heir is a lovely romp through what should be a stereotypical fantasy story. It has all the right elements: Elves, dwarves, heroes, dragons and orcs. No to mention secret identities and a QUEST! This story takes those elements and dumps them, and the reader, on their asses, and takes them for a wild rollicking ride. Fantastic story, awesome characters and hot sex.
Not to mention an Orc Bard.

A fun and funny adventure to delight!
I though the story was fun and imaginative. These story lines can often be predictable and imitative but the authors were able to make each character and their adventure unique and memorable. The narrator was fun to listen to and really brought the book to life. The whole thing reminded me of TJ Klune who is one of my favorites. I will definitely be looking for more from all three!

I was thrown off
This book is so much fun. I really loved the characters and the world the authors have created. A little bit sassy and sweet at the same time. I just don’t understand why they choose a narrator who was not British if most of the main characters have a British accent. If the British accent the narrator used was good then I dont think I would have noticed. But his British accent is terrible and it totally took me out of the book. Its a shame, because I think I have would have enjoyed the ride a bit more had I not been so distracted by the bizarre vocal performance.

I have never heard of these authors or this book, but I was hitting a dry spell so I thought why not. I am so glad I did, The story is hilariously original and engaging. The characters whilst all flawed are enduringly charming and the narrator is spot on with every character.

A light, fluffy and fun fairytale!
A ragged band of heroes attempt a prison break to rescue the red-haired prince, only to find there are two red-haired prisoners in the cell, both claiming to be the prince. Involving an elf, dwarf, orc, teeny dragon, and a few humans, this light fantasy romance is firmly tongue-in-cheek with some fun banter. Conman and petty thief, Loth steals the show and most of the narration sits with him - this is his story of redemption as he slowly falls for a very sullen and cranky Grub (aka Prince Tarquin). This feels like YA territory with each peril resolving relatively easily, but the relationships are definitely adult. Nick J Russo gives everyone their own voice and his light mellow tones suit the fairytale nature of the story. It’s perfect summer reading / listening.

Very reminiscent of TJ Klune's Verania series...but I didn't mind all that much since I loved that series so much and you really can't find a better role model for MM fantasy adventure romance.
A fun, sexy romp.
Very good narration, by the way.
