Publisher's summary

The war ended, leaving dozens of corpses behind. Little did they know that this was only the first battle that would be waged in an even brutal war against the System itself.

A titan and a wave of paralyzing cold, like a hammer and anvil, are about to flatten the pitiful remnants of the surviving players. What should a simple psychic do in this case? Jump through portals and worlds in search of fragments of a key that will open the door to the Underworld!

Solid book.

All in all it's a great book. I enjoyed the ride with Loki and the others and the mystery added. That ending though... the last chapter felt like a light speed dash to the finish. Almost like the author would have to pay $100 for every letter over a certain amount. Other than that small complaint this book is well worth it.

Travis Baldree continues to amaze. His narration furthers my belief that he is a multi-dimensional deity that exists, simultaneously, in everyones minds giving voice to characters via eldritch magic and sacrifices.

Book ending was a letdown

Victor Alucard created another whimsically brutal continuation of the series that had me losing sleep binge-listening. There were new aliens to defeat and some to save, untrustworthy mages of both factions, close-call battle encounters and, generally, lots to like. That is, until the end where a big reveal was made that kind of took a lot of air out of the series for me. The author left it open for at least another book and I will still purchase it to see where it leads but, probably, with less vigor as I had been following it.

Travis Baldree's performance tends to enhance the listening pleasure and that was still true with this book.
