Publisher's summary

Performance coach Alan Stein Jr. shares the secret principles used by world-class performers that will help you improve your productivity and achieve higher levels of success.

High achievers are at the top of their game because of the discipline they have during the unseen hours. They have made a commitment to establish, tweak, and repeat positive habits in everything they do. Raise Your Game examines the top leaders in sports and business and proves that success is a result of the little things we do all the time.

The basic principles provided in Raise Your Game are simple, but not easy. We live in an instantly downloadable world that encourages us to skip steps. We are taught to chase what's hot, flashy, and sexy and ignore what's basic. But the basics work. They always have, and they always will.

Raise Your Games will inspire and empower you to commit to the fundamentals, create a winning mindset, and progress into new levels of success.

Your Audience Prob Sits at a Desk

This was so focused on sports, and high performing athletes, and relentless attempts to make their lessons and best practices universal. Reality check....your listening audience? Probably 90% have a desk or corporate job, and the constant advice ‘to have passion about what you do or get out of it, or if you don’t love what you do, get out of it’...some of us just aren’t going to be obsessed with our desk job or be able to ‘chase our dreams’...this was a book of things that sound great in theory but lacked 2019 true application. ‘So and so athlete is up at 4:00 AM and worked 60000 hours to win’ stop thinking that message applies across the real world...if I had fun doing what I do as in it was an actual physical activity, a hobby I would have anyways and something I loved, it was glorified (NBA), I was paid millions and millions to do it, treated like a celebrity (NBA) - pretty sure my sustained discipline would be significantly higher. THE REST OF US ARE BEHIND A DESK AND TRYING TO GROW AND THRIVE IN THAT ENVIRONMENT, stop comparing the two. This guy was so out of touch.

Good compilation of other people's quotes

Interesting basketball stories. However, the book is mostly a compilation of other people's phrases, traditional management quotes and ideas.

Listen AND Purchase!!!

As an avid audiobook listener, after chapter 2, I did something I have never done before. Purchased the hardcopy of a book I was listening to. Not only did I purchase one, I bought 8. Copies for my team. Not a sports team, team of executives, or a team of sales people, but a team of Accountants. Alan Stein, Jr. has done his research! This book is exactly as promised, a compilation of what the Best of the Best do - in an easy to understand, actionable format. My list of quotes and ideas kept getting longer and longer the more I listened. While there were many references to sports icons and teams - all the information is easily applicable to everyone. You will get something out of this book. Guaranteed.

Do not hesitate. This is one of the best!

boring and cliche

this is the first book I have ever returned to audible.
with such good reviews I forced myself to listen for an hour, thinking I just had to get to the good part.
the author speaks in monotone and spews cliche after cliche.
I honestly have no idea why this book is so highly rated.

Like a poorly researched blog post

Nothing new or unique here. Just regurgitation from others. I’d just listen to his podcast.

Male focused

As a female professor in STEM I was hoping this would inspire me to publish more, do better science, and reach new heights in my work. I listened to the first 30 min and was disappointed to find out it is mostly about a perspective from male athletes. All the names that were dropped were male. In fact the first mention of anything remotely female didn’t happen until 30 min in with the statement “we use the pronoun ‘he’ throughout the book but recognize that these secrets apply to everyone”.

too much sports

take out the sports talk and the valuable part will be left. half the size and twice the quality. almost everything here is a cliche but they are great and worth repeating

Good for people who are die hard NBA fan

There were some valuable lessons in the book. The problem was the author would often relate them to NBA personalities such as players, coaches and owners which I find hard to relate since I am not much of an NBA fan.

Bunch of unrelated sport stories

The author has attempted to draw business and life conclusions from a bunch of unrelated stories about how someone shot the ball, woke up in the morning or highfived team members on the basketball court.
Unsuccessful attempt and poor effort to artificially connect all of that into business environment.

Must listen, a truly brilliant audiobook

Brilliant content, great stories/references and articulated in a manner that grabs you.

A very bold statement, but this is without doubt the best audiobook I’ve had the pleasure of listening to thus far.

Completed within 4 days and genuinely couldn’t put it down.

A must listen.

Great book but not for everyone

Enjoyable listen but heavily sports focused - specifically basketball. I'm a sports fan but struggled with some of the intense analysis of basketball. Lots of references to the corporate environment so not as relevant to entrepreneurs/small businesses. Overall though, I thought had some very useful information

awesome book!

Allan has described it so well that high performance comes with living it in reality. it is essential you remain authentic and be yourself in real life and real life at work. Great combination to define how individual and teams make a difference on the sports ground and in the organisation! I would highly recommend this book to those who wants to build a high performing culture. A culture of performance where you and your business is intending to thrive. he has exceptional defined the behaviours and traits of high performing individuals.

Very insightful

Very insightful and loads of research. If you love basketball then you will love this book but I am an Aussie that doesn’t follow basketball at all so it dragged a little for me in this sense.

I would recommend however.
